Many traders are surprised by the information about fake eggs.

According to the reporter of Cong Thuong Newspaper at the traditional markets and wholesale markets in Hanoi , the current price of chicken eggs is at 2,000 - 2,200 VND/egg, a quite low price compared to the same period last year.

Ms. Hoa, a trader at Kim Lien market, said that normally, the price of chicken eggs only decreases after Tet, however, this year, the price of chicken eggs has remained low since Tet.

The price of chicken eggs at traditional markets and wholesale markets in Hanoi is currently at 2,000-2,200 VND/egg.

“After a cyclical decrease after Tet, the price of chicken eggs increased slightly, but now it has decreased again,” Ms. Hoa shared, and said that the reason was that supply was greater than demand, and low purchasing power in the market pushed egg prices down sharply. When asked about information about fake chicken eggs, Ms. Hoa said she did not know because the eggs were taken from her farm in Soc Son. Having witnessed the process of raising and harvesting real chicken eggs, she did not know how fake eggs were produced.

According to a farm owner in Kinh Mon ( Hai Duong ), the current price of chicken eggs has dropped to only 1,200 - 1,300 VND/egg. If the hens lay at a high rate, the price must be 1,500 VND/egg to break even, while for small-scale farms, the production cost is about 1,600 VND/egg. With the current selling price, each egg, the farmer loses a few hundred VND. Not only that, production and business establishments are facing many difficulties in selling their products. Many businesses and households raising egg-laying chickens are suffering heavy losses and are at risk of bankruptcy.

Eggs are an indispensable food in many families. When asked about fake eggs, Ms. Thanh Tra (Phuong Mai, Dong Da, Hanoi) was quite surprised and also wondered how they faked them and why. "There are plenty of real eggs in the market, and the price is not too high. I don't know what their purpose is in making fake eggs," Ms. Thanh Tra said.

“Information about fake chicken eggs on social networks is just a false rumor,” Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son - Chairman of the Vietnam Poultry Association - told reporters of the Industry and Trade Newspaper. Up to now, there is no scientific evidence in the world that fake eggs can be produced that have the same characteristics as natural chicken eggs.

In fact, in our country, in the past and present, there have been no fake eggs circulating on the market. Therefore, it can be affirmed that the information spread on social networks about the production of fake chicken eggs in the country is completely fabricated. This causes confusion for consumers and negatively affects the production and business of poultry eggs in the country.

This act of spreading rumors must be dealt with seriously.

Regarding the information circulating on social networks about "fake chicken eggs", speaking with reporters of Cong Thuong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Tri Cong - Chairman of Dong Nai Livestock Association - said that egg production in Vietnam is currently very large, there are times when supply is higher than demand. Therefore, the price of chicken eggs and duck eggs in Vietnam is quite cheap. People with low incomes can also buy eggs to eat every day.

"Counterfeiters often choose high-value items to counterfeit in order to make big profits, no one makes "fake eggs"," Mr. Nguyen Tri Cong wondered, adding that even if there was technology to make fake eggs, no one would make fake eggs in Vietnam. And if there were fake eggs produced abroad, it would be very difficult to bring them back to Vietnam under the control of authorities.

The information is fake, but the damage is real. To protect poultry farmers and the domestic livestock industry, it not only causes confusion and anxiety for consumers, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son recommended that the authorities need to investigate, verify and strictly handle those who have spread false information about fake eggs.

The Association also requested that press agencies promptly report information to refute false rumors, and at the same time increase propaganda to consumers about the nutritional value and benefits of poultry eggs for human health, contributing to stabilizing domestic livestock production.

On the side of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Mr. Duong Tat Thang - Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine - said that the information about fake chicken eggs on social networks is just a false rumor causing confusion, seriously affecting livestock farmers as well as the consumer market. The act of spreading this rumor must be strictly handled. The Department has also grasped the information and is coordinating and directing relevant units to quickly take action to have a plan to support livestock farmers to overcome difficulties.

According to the Vietnam Poultry Association, egg production in 2024 nationwide will reach nearly 21 billion eggs, but the actual number is much larger. Amidst the information matrix on social networks, experts also said that consumers need to be alert and not let false rumors lead them astray and cause unnecessary confusion. Eggs are still an essential, popular and safe food.

According to industry experts, to make fake eggs, the technical issue of making the eggshells look like real ones would be a shock to the scientific community. In principle, to survive in the market, the cost of producing fake goods, in this case fake eggs, must be much lower than the price of natural ones. However, currently on the market, the supply of Vietnamese eggs is very abundant, the price is very cheap, so fake eggs, if any, cannot compete.
