Is 'Snow White' One of Disney's Best Remakes?

Disney's remake of 'Snow White' has finally hit Hollywood.

The first reactions to Snow White are spreading, calling it a huge success for the "Mouse House".

Variety 's film reporter Katcy Stephan praised star Rachel Zegler as "a dazzling superstar," adding that the film is "a visual feast with stunning new musical numbers and, of course, dozens of charming animated animals. The screenplay wisely gives our heroine new depth, through her intense desire to become the leader her father believes she can be. There's also a love story as sweet as apple pie."

Online critic Christopher Rates It wrote of the $269 million blockbuster: "Snow White is not only one of Disney's best live-action remakes in years, but also a re-imagining of the magic of the 1937 film. Rachel Zegler is Snow White and she gives a magical performance."

Filmhounds editor Paul Klein agreed with the praise, but noted: "I regret saying this, but Snow White is great. I really enjoyed the musical numbers, especially the opening number and Snow White's dance. Zegler is great in the title role, and Gal Gadot makes a great evil queen."

Snow White is directed by Marc Webb, who previously directed 500 Days of Summer and The Amazing Spider-Man . It is a remake of Disney's 1937 animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs . Zegler plays the titular character, a princess who is forced into the woods after her stepmother, the Evil Queen (Gal Gadot), takes control of her parents' kingdom. Snow White meets the seven dwarfs and together they devise a plan to reclaim her kingdom. Andrew Burnap plays the male lead in the film, who is Snow White's new love interest.

The Snow White remake is Disney's latest attempt to bring its iconic animated films back to the big screen in live-action form. The studio will also release a live-action version of Lilo & Stitch in theaters next May.

It's been a long road to release the Snow White remake. Filming began in March 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic delayed production until March 2022.

Controversy arose throughout the making of the film, beginning when Zegler offended some Disney fans by calling the original Snow White animated film "outdated" because the prince "literally stalks Snow White".

“She’s not going to be saved by a prince. She’s not going to dream of true love. She’s going to dream of becoming the leader she knows she can be,” Zegler told Variety two years ago.

Game of Thrones Emmy winner Peter Dinklage criticized the show for using CGI to create the seven dwarfs without casting actors for those roles.

Snow White (Vietnamese title: Snow White ) will be released in Vietnamese theaters on March 21, the same time as in North America.
