Glory from international medals
This year, Quang Ninh's education sector has received a series of good news. From international and regional competitions and Olympiads, students from the province have been honored and recognized, becoming a source of pride for their homeland. Among them, the students of Quang Ninh deserve special mention. Ninh Quang Thang from Ha Long Specialized High School won a prestigious Bronze Medal at the 37th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), held in Bolivia from July 27 to August 3, 2025.

Ninh Quang Thắng shared: "Before entering this competition, I was quite overwhelmed because there were more than 300 contestants from 84 countries and territories. This is the world's largest, highest-quality, and most prestigious Informatics competition. However, with the encouragement of my family and the support of my teachers, I gained more confidence and participated in the competition with the utmost determination. On each day of the competition, we completed a 5-hour programming test on computers and solved 3 problems. The results were automatically graded online, and the scoreboard was published live throughout the two days of the competition (online)."
Thang recounted that this year's exam was highly challenging, requiring flexible application of knowledge and great creativity from each contestant. The teams and contestants had prepared thoroughly and invested heavily in this competition, resulting in a very high level of competition. The Vietnamese delegation, with all four participating students, won medals (1 Gold, 2 Silver, and 1 Bronze). Among them, Ninh Quang Thang, a student from Ha Long Specialized High School in Quang Ninh , participating for the first time, showed exceptional effort and won a Bronze medal.
It is known that before achieving this result, Thang had won a Bronze Medal at the Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad. Ms. Do Thi Dieu Thuy, Principal of Ha Long Specialized High School, said: "Thang's proud achievement today is the result of a long journey of effort by both teachers and students, and the school; it is proof of the increasingly high quality of education at Ha Long Specialized High School as well as in Quang Ninh province."
This is the third time in history that Quang Ninh has had a student register for an international Olympiad. Previously, in 1998, Vi Anh Tuan from Cam Pha High School won a Silver Medal at the International Chemistry Olympiad held in Australia; and in 2016, Nguyen Ngoc Minh Hai from Ha Long Specialized High School won a Bronze Medal at the International Biology Olympiad held in Vietnam.
In regional intellectual competitions, students from Quang Ninh have also achieved many outstanding results. For example: In June 2025, Trinh Viet Hoang from Ha Long Specialized High School won a Silver Medal at the Abu Rayhan-Biruni International Chemistry Olympiad 2025. In 2022, Vu Huy Hoang from Ha Long Specialized High School won a Silver Medal at the Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad; Le Thuy Mai Anh from Ha Long Specialized High School won a Bronze Medal at the European Physics Olympiad…

Elevating quality, affirming our position.
Along with remarkable achievements in international and regional examinations and competitions, the overall quality of education in the province has seen a significant transformation. Quang Ninh is among the top provinces nationwide, highly praised by the Ministry of Education and Training for its training in modules implementing the 2018 General Education Program, ensuring that 100% of teachers and administrators participated in training on the 2018 General Education Program. To date, 100% of general education schools throughout the province have implemented local education content in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training. The quality of the province's human resources is increasingly improving, with the percentage of trained workers increasing from 85.5% (in 2021) to 87% (by the end of 2024).
High school education maintains a promotion rate of over 97%. The high school entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year will be conducted safely, seriously, objectively, fairly, with quality, and according to plan. The results of the 2025-2026 high school entrance exam show outstanding progress: The percentage of students scoring average or above in the entrance exam across the province is 68.46% (8.04% higher than the 2024-2025 school year), significantly higher than the 2018-2023 period.
The 2025 high school graduation exam in Quang Ninh province was conducted safely, seriously, and in accordance with regulations. The province's average score was 6.19 points; ranking 12th out of 34 newly established provinces and cities; and 13th out of 63 (old) provinces and cities, an increase of 12 places compared to 2024.
The 2024-2025 National Excellent Student Competition continued to impress with 110 participating students winning 88 awards, including 2 first prizes, 27 second prizes, 30 third prizes, and 29 consolation prizes. The Biology, Geography, and Chinese language teams achieved 100% award success, while the Physics, History, and English teams had a 90% success rate. The province continued to maintain its 8th position among the top 10 provinces and cities (according to statistics before the merger of the two-tiered local government) with the highest number of excellent students nationwide. Similarly, in the 2024-2025 National Science and Technology Competition for high school students, the province also won 1 second prize and 2 promising awards.
Quang Ninh also firmly consolidated and improved the quality of literacy eradication at level 2 (the highest level). The province has 235 students per 10,000 inhabitants (compared to 215 students per 10,000 inhabitants nationwide), which is 20 students per 10,000 inhabitants higher than the national average. The scale and network of vocational education institutions are diverse in type, ngành/ nghề (fields/professions), and training levels, and are evenly distributed throughout the province; focusing on high-quality vocational training, training linked to the needs of businesses and the people, and supplying human resources for the province. In the first eight months of 2025, the province enrolled 17,388 people, including 235 college-level students, 1,275 intermediate-level students, and 15,876 trainees in basic and short-term (under 3 months) training programs.

Quang Ninh province is also increasingly meeting the educational needs of children from ethnic minority communities in remote, disadvantaged areas. The quality of education, nurturing, and care for ethnic minority students in mountainous and island areas, especially in ethnic boarding and semi-boarding schools, has improved significantly. To date, 100% of primary schools with ethnic minority children have created environments that enhance Vietnamese language skills for children; and have relatively effectively integrated and incorporated the introduction of the Vietnamese language.
The total provincial budget allocated in the medium-term public investment plan for the 2021-2025 period for direct investment and support in the education sector is over 3,291 billion VND; 2.3 times higher than the 2016-2020 period, including 24 projects to invest in the construction of school facilities with a total capital of over 2,626 billion VND.
It can be affirmed that the impressive results achieved by Quang Ninh's Education and Training sector today are clear evidence of the province's strategic vision, close attention to detail, and the humane and groundbreaking decisions of the Provincial People's Council over the years. From preschool and primary education to university, all levels of education have received comprehensive investment, aiming to improve overall quality and develop sustainable human resources. The telling figures regarding the percentage of excellent students, graduation exam scores, and the percentage of trained workers not only demonstrate the sector's efforts but also affirm Quang Ninh's new position as a locality that always considers education as the foundation of development.
