EXPLOIT STRENGTHS
The important highlight to contribute to affirming the success of the policy of building new rural areas is certainly derived from rural economic models, the focus is still on cooperative economy. Because only by changing the production method, aiming to improve the rural economy can we develop sustainably and then the policy of building new rural areas will reach the desired destination.

Therefore, rural economic development models and cooperatives are considered core factors. For this reason, over the past years, Tien Giang has focused on consolidating and improving the quality of this collective economic model and has brought about positive results.
According to the assessment of the Coordination Office of the National Target Program on New Rural Construction in Tien Giang province, in recent times, cooperatives in the province have operated effectively and have had stable value chain linkage contracts.
In particular, in communes that meet advanced NTM standards, there are cooperatives operating in accordance with the provisions of the current Law on Cooperatives. Cooperatives operate effectively from the good level and above, with total revenue in 2024 of cooperatives reaching more than 387 billion VND (an average of more than 5.7 billion VND/cooperative), and profit in 2024 of cooperatives reaching 15 billion VND (an average of more than 228 million VND/cooperative).
In addition, cooperatives also link the supply of input materials and services associated with the consumption of agricultural products, sign contracts with companies and facilities to link the consumption of agricultural products for members; ensure the implementation of contracts to consume at least 30% of the total output of main products and services of the cooperative in the 3 consecutive years before the year of recognition consideration.
In addition, some cooperatives have typical products, strengths, and potential to participate in the OCOP Program and achieve OCOP certification of 3 stars or higher, such as: Dong Nghi Agricultural Cooperative (goat milk products achieving OCOP 4 stars), Go Cong Aquaculture Cooperative (chicken products achieving OCOP 3 stars), Binh An Cherry Cooperative (cherry jam achieving OCOP 3 stars), Hiep Duc Agricultural Service Cooperative (dried durian achieving OCOP 4 stars)...
In addition, all communes have OCOP products that are classified as meeting standards or equivalent and still valid. Accordingly, since the implementation of the OCOP Program in 2019, by the end of 2024, Tien Giang has built and recognized 350 OCOP products, with remarkable growth from 28 products in 2020 to 350 products in 2024. Particularly for advanced NTM communes, 100% of communes meet the target of having at least 1 OCOP product recognized by competent authorities with 3 stars or more and still valid.
In fact, OCOP products have contributed to building product brands, enhancing the reputation and brand of the province's products, reaching further and further in the market, creating a spread in society, creating a new direction in production and business; traditional products in rural areas have gradually affirmed their brands, improved quality, contributing to increasing income for rural people.
According to general assessment, the OCOP Program has opened up breakthrough transformation opportunities for businesses, from small-scale with few staff to large units, creating many jobs and fully promoting the unique strengths of each locality.
One of the typical examples is TRAVIPHA Company Limited, which started from a soursop tea production facility, with a modest staff and traditional processes. Participating in the OCOP Program, the enterprise had the opportunity to improve the production process and apply strict safety and quality standards, the product was recognized as reaching 4-star OCOP, expanding the domestic and international markets; investing in factory expansion, improving quality and productivity, achieving the goal of 5-star OCOP products and becoming a National OCOP product in 2024.
In addition, in the province, there are also a number of entities such as: Tri Son Trading and Service Company Limited (My Tho City) with more than 40 products, of which 25 products are certified with 4-star OCOP, and has opened more than 50 distributors throughout the provinces and cities; Go Cong shrimp paste products of Mam Ba Hai Diem Cooperative after being certified with OCOP, have been put into business by supermarket systems, so sales have increased every month. Currently, Mam Ba Hai Diem Cooperative has developed into Mam Ba Hai Diem Co., Ltd.
MANY EFFECTIVE MODELS
Through the construction of new rural areas, Tien Giang has also shaped an economic model applying high technology, an integrated plant health management model (IPHM), an agricultural model applying mechanization in all stages, a chain linkage model associated with ensuring food safety...
Model of "Linking cocoa processing with eco-tourism" in Binh Ninh commune, Cho Gao district, Tien Giang province. |
One of the outstanding models is “Application of drip irrigation technology combined with greenhouses in melon cultivation”, with a scale of 2 hectares in Thanh Hoa commune, Tan Phuoc district. This model applies the technique of growing melons in greenhouses according to VietGAP standards, using an automatic drip irrigation system and linking product consumption.
Through implementation, the results show that the model gives stable productivity, from 2.5 - 3 tons/greenhouse/1,000 m2, average selling price 25,000 VND/kg, average profit 40 million VND/crop/house/1,000 m2. In addition, the model helps save labor in watering, fertilizing, spraying pesticides, creating safe products and solving idle labor in the locality. A special thing is that the model has helped save irrigation water, contributing to production adaptation to climate change.
Or the model of "Organic quail farming for domestic consumption and export" of Phuong Nam Farm Company Limited (Long An commune, Chau Thanh district) with a scale of 100,000 birds. The egg-laying quail farming model is carried out according to biosafety processes, limiting the use of antibiotics, achieving ISO 22000:2018 food safety management system certification and HACCP Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point System for the scope of packaging and trading of quail eggs, chicken eggs, fresh duck eggs, salted duck eggs, and century duck eggs.
Currently, the company has signed a contract to link quail egg consumption with Tien Giang Vegetable and Fruit Company to package quail eggs for export to Japan and signed a contract to link consumption with stores and supermarkets in and outside the province. In fact, the model has brought in an average additional profit of 1 billion VND/year compared to outside the model, creating jobs for 20 workers in the commune.
At the same time, through the construction of new rural areas, many effective rural economic development models have emerged in the direction of integrating multiple values (economic, cultural, environmental...). Accordingly, the model of "Linking cocoa processing with eco-tourism" in Binh Ninh commune, Cho Gao district, with a scale of 9 hectares, has also created its own highlights.
Accordingly, the model applies UTZ cocoa growing techniques, has built a cocoa production area according to UTZ and is a local tourist attraction, safe products have brought higher profits than outside the model by about 201 million VND/ha/year, increasing economic efficiency by more than 66% compared to outside the model due to revenue from ecotourism services thanks to monitoring the use of pesticides, thereby limiting the possibility of soil and water pollution, in line with the orientation of sustainable agricultural development.
Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Diep, Director of Xuan Ron Cacao Company Limited, the unit implementing the model, said that the company's model has been known by many people and the company is also calculating to expand the growing area as well as product distribution channels.
Overall, the achievements of the New Rural Development Program today are the result of the efforts of all levels, sectors and the joint efforts of the people.
