Cashless Day 2025 to boost digital economy growth

On the morning of June 14, two major events within the framework of the program "Cashless Day 2025" took place in the center of Ho Chi Minh City, marking a new step forward in the strategy of financial inclusion and cashless payments (CND) in Vietnam.

That is the opening ceremony of “Cashless Festival - Ting Ting Day 2025” at Nguyen Hue walking street and the Workshop “TTKTM: Driving force for digital economic growth”, which is not only a technology playground and professional forum, but also a demonstration of how the State - businesses - people - media can accompany and resonate in an ambitious digital transformation goal.

Immediately afterwards, the workshop “TTKTM: Driving force for digital economic growth” took place to summarize the implementation of the TTKTM development project in Vietnam for the period 2021-2025 according to Decision 1813/QD-TTg on TTKTM development.

The program was organized by the Payment Department, Banking Times - State Bank, Tuoi Tre Newspaper in coordination with the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City and the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS) under the direction of the State Bank of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee with the support of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union and the companionship of a number of banks and partners.

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc visited the Cashless Day 2025 event area on Nguyen Hue Street on the morning of June 14.

From early morning on June 14, thousands of people, including many young people, flocked to Nguyen Hue walking street to attend the opening ceremony and then directly experience modern payment technology and cashless shopping services at the Ting Ting Day Festival - the biggest highlight in the series of activities of Cashless Day 2025.

With the slogan "One touch - live without cash", the festival is divided into 4 areas to recreate a true cashless society: from shopping with QR codes, using e-wallets to eat and drink, swiping contactless cards to receive incentives, to checking in, playing games, and receiving gifts completely without using cash.

In particular, for the first time, the festival has a dedicated area for traders from traditional markets directly implemented by the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy - Ministry of Industry and Trade. Here, the model of traditional markets is recreated, but traders will be able to trade digitally, livestream sales, receive support and instructions on how to use e-wallets, QR payments, create quick transfer codes, etc.

And the first event organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the occasion of the Cashless Day program is the National Promotion Month in the middle of the year, starting on June 14 and lasting until July 14... At the event, the leaders of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City also announced information about the promotional program focusing on the Shopping Season in 2025, focusing on encouraging e-commerce and stimulating domestic consumption.

Immediately after the opening ceremony, the workshop "TTKTM: Driving force for digital economic growth" attracted 300 leaders of state agencies, economic experts, delegates... to participate.

At the conference, the State Bank announced figures showing that by the end of 2024, Vietnam would have more than 204.5 million individual customer payment accounts, 154.1 million bank cards in circulation; 86.97% of adults have bank accounts.

Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang emphasized that digital payment is a key strategy in developing e-commerce, especially in supporting small traders and traditional markets to modernize their business models. The program needs to focus on two pillars: Raising public awareness and developing digital infrastructure, along with digital skills training to help small traders catch up with modern consumption trends.

Director of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy Le Hoang Oanh also said that the Ministry of Industry and Trade is implementing a program to digitally transform traditional market traders nationwide. And integrating e-commerce with QR Code, e-wallet, and contactless payment not only helps optimize operational processes but also helps traders expand their customer base, access digital finance, and join modern supply chains. It is expected that in 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will advise the Government to submit the Law on E-commerce, creating a legal corridor for sustainable digital business development.

According to Journalist Le The Chu, Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre Newspaper, from a media initiative in 2019, Cashless Day has now become a profound social movement with a long-term development strategy. It is expected that in 2025, the program will reach more than 50 million people, attract more than 200,000 direct participants and strongly spread the spirit of digital transformation to all social classes. The program also has many other programs such as: Financial Arena Gameshow, financial skills livestream, Mega Livestream, E-Concert night...

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the workshop, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc said that, in response to the requirements of rapid and sustainable development in the current era of development, the Government has determined that e-commerce is not only a convenient tool, but also an important link in the operating structure of the digital economy.

“I believe that with the synchronous participation from the central to local levels, from the State to enterprises and the press, e-commerce will no longer be a new option - but will be a universal platform of the digital economy, of the digital government and of the digital society. The Government always considers this a priority in the national digital transformation strategy…”, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc emphasized.
