On March 18, Vietnam Airlines announced a sharp increase in flight frequency to Con Dao in the context that Bamboo Airways is about to stop operating this route in April.
With an increase in passengers and fewer competitors, Vietnam Airlines has decided to increase its frequency by 50% compared to February 2024.
Specifically, in mid-March, Vietnam Airlines operated an average of 26-30 daily flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Con Dao. The number of flights increased by nearly 50% compared to the previous month. The route is currently operated by ATR-72 aircraft operated by VASCO (a subsidiary of Vietnam Airlines).
According to Vietnam Airlines, with high flight frequency, passengers can conveniently book seats, meeting the travel needs from Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao or from northern provinces such as Hanoi , Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Vinh... to this island with a stop at Tan Son Nhat airport.
Why did Bamboo Airways stop flying to Con Dao?
Previously, Bamboo Airways announced that it would stop operating flights to and from Con Dao from early April 2024. Passengers who want to go to this island district by air can only buy tickets from Vietnam Airlines.
The reason is that Bamboo Airways returned 3 Embraer E190 aircraft. According to the airline, the Embraer E190 aircraft has high fuel consumption (almost equal to the Airbus A320/321, while the number of passengers it can carry is only half), and is ineffective in the context of high oil prices, the current trend of reducing fossil fuel consumption, and moving towards fuel-saving or environmentally friendly technologies.
In addition to airplanes, tourists can now choose to travel by ship from Soc Trang, Can Tho, Ba Ria - Vung Tau... to Con Dao with ticket prices ranging from 280,000 - 1.2 million VND/ticket/way (depending on ship class and departure point).
