Accordingly, on September 18, patient TVK (34 years old, residing in Cam Pha ward) was admitted to the hospital with a persistent right nasal congestion, frequent runny nose and tinnitus. Previously, the patient had gone to another unit for examination and taken medication, but these symptoms did not improve.
Through ENT endoscopy, the doctor discovered a hard, firm mass with brown scales deep in the right nasal cavity, filling the nasal cavity, causing compression and obstructing breathing, suspected to be nasal stones or sinus fungus.
After consultation, the team of doctors including Dr. Ly Van Ngọt - Department of Otorhinolaryngology; Dr. Do Ngoc Lam - Head of Department of Surgery and Anesthesia and Resuscitation performed an endoscopy and removed a stone about 1cm in size, which had pus. The procedure was performed safely. The patient was stable after the intervention, no longer had symptoms of nasal congestion, runny nose, tinnitus... and has now been discharged from the hospital.
Dr. Ly Van Ngọt said: Many cases of patients have recurring symptoms such as nasal congestion, runny nose, tinnitus, etc., which are easily confused with sinusitis or the common cold. In fact, the cause may come from foreign objects, polyps, tumors, or chronic diseases of the ear, nose, and throat.
In this case, the foreign object in the patient's nose is a nasal stone - formed by the deposition of organic substances (similar to the formation of other types of stones in the body). If not detected and treated promptly, stones that remain for a long time can cause inflammation, seriously affecting health.
Doctor Ly Van Ngọt recommends that when you have persistent, recurring symptoms of nasal congestion or runny nose, you should not arbitrarily use medication for a long time.
Patients need to be examined and screened for ear, nose and throat using a modern endoscopy system to accurately detect lesions. If detected early, timely treatment will help avoid complications and reduce inconvenience for the patient.
