(DN) - Doctors at Hoan My Binh Phuoc Hospital have just successfully performed an artificial hip replacement surgery on a 91-year-old patient, the oldest patient to have this surgery performed at the unit.

Previously, the old lady unfortunately fell during daily activities, leading to a fracture of the right femur - a serious injury commonly found in the elderly, which can cause the patient to lose the ability to walk or have more serious complications if not treated promptly. She was admitted to the hospital in a state of severe pain, limited mobility, and many underlying diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, etc., making the surgery even more challenging. The medical team performed internal medicine to stabilize the patient's condition and carefully prepared all conditions before surgery.

The surgery was performed 3 days after admission and lasted about 60 minutes, with the coordination of the Trauma Surgery team of Hoan My Binh Phuoc Hospital and the orthopedic trauma consultant from Ho Chi Minh City. Thanks to close coordination and strict adherence to the anesthesia - surgery procedure, the surgery was successful, the patient was stable immediately after surgery and was instructed to do early physical therapy to walk soon, avoid joint stiffness and blood clots. The old lady is expected to be discharged in the next 2 - 3 days.
