Previously, at 7:30 a.m. on October 27, a Quang Ngai fishing boat operating at sea sent out a distress signal because on board was a fisherman named Nguyen Van Son, from Binh Son commune, Quang Ngai province, who was suffering from severe abdominal cramps.
Receiving the distress signal, the 48th Coast Guard Squadron coordinated with the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region II to send forces to join the SAR 631 ship in the rescue mission. At about 17:50 on the same day, the SAR 631 ship approached the Quang Ngai fishing boat and brought the distressed fishermen on board.
Upon examination, fisherman Nguyen Van Son had severe pain in the right lower rib area, high fever, and was initially diagnosed with appendicitis. The Navy's medical team promptly organized an examination and initial emergency treatment for the patient.
At around 3am this morning, SAR 631 brought the fisherman back to the port of Border Guard Group 48. After that, the two units organized forces and vehicles to receive and take the victim to Gia Lai Provincial General Hospital for emergency treatment. The fisherman was then taken to surgery and is out of critical condition.
