Cambodia determined to host Asian Youth Games in the future

Mr. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, said that the failure to host the Asian Youth Games (AYG) in 2029 will make the country even more determined to be able to organize this event on a large scale in the future.

The Olympic Council of Asia has decided to cancel the hosting of the 2029 Asian Youth Games (AYG) in Cambodia due to the country's failure to meet certain deadlines.

Daniel Phouk's victory is highly appreciated

“We accept this decision. We are not disappointed because we know and understand the situation and the reasons why the Olympic Council of Asia had to make this decision. Now, we will try our best to win the opportunity to host, maybe for the next Games after 2029,” said Mr. Vath Chamroeun.

Cambodia arrived in Bahrain with a squad of 43 athletes, competing in 14 sports and enjoying initial success with Daniel Phouk winning a bronze medal in Pencak Silat.

This is Cambodia’s first medal at the Asian Youth Games. In 2013 in Nanjing and 2009 in Singapore, the country’s sports had no luck with medals at the Games. Therefore, Daniel Phouk’s victory is truly a very encouraging achievement for Cambodian sports.

"I'm very happy to win this medal, even though it's only bronze. I think I did my best and I'm proud of that!", Daniel Phouk shared with Cambodian media.

Secretary General Vath Chamroeun also appreciated this achievement: "It is a great result, and considering that this is the first time Cambodia has stepped onto the podium at the Games, it is a landmark achievement. This is very meaningful for Cambodian sports".
