On November 8, Can Tho Central General Hospital coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh City Spine Association to organize the 4th international spine symposium.
The event gathered 26 leading medical experts from Japan, Taiwan, India, Malaysia and more than 500 delegates who are medical staff and doctors from medical facilities nationwide and the Mekong Delta region. With 29 lectures and in-depth reports presented, the conference focused on modern treatment techniques, minimally invasive surgery trends and post-operative care.

Speaking at the conference, Associate Professor - Doctor - Doctor Vo Van Thanh, Honorary President of the Ho Chi Minh City Spine Association, emphasized the importance of continuous updating and professional development. He said: "This is a great opportunity for domestic and international colleagues to meet and share experiences. These activities aim to update the latest knowledge, improve professional skills; help provide better care for spinal diseases, and develop spinal surgery for Can Tho and the Mekong Delta region."

In particular, one of the practical highlights of the event was the intensive training and technical transfer course that took place from November 6 to 9. International experts directly consulted, examined and successfully performed 4 complicated spinal pathology cases right at Can Tho Central General Hospital, including advanced techniques such as Shiraishi decompression and posterior interbody fusion (PLIF) for lumbar spine instability.
Specialist Doctor Nguyen Minh Vu, Director of Can Tho Central General Hospital, said: "Regularly organizing large-scale scientific conferences like this has helped the hospital develop strongly in the field of spinal surgery, while improving the quality of specialized orthopedic examination and treatment for people in the Mekong Delta."
Mekong Delta has an additional 300-bed orthopedic trauma hospital
Also at the conference, information from Can Tho Central General Hospital said that recently, the Ministry of Health has approved the adjustment of the policy, bringing the Can Tho Central Orthopedic Hospital, which has been basically completed, into a facility directly under Can Tho Central General Hospital. This hospital project has a scale of 300 beds, a total construction capital of 950 billion VND and equipment of about 180 billion VND, expected to be put into use in the first quarter of 2026. The goal is to meet the increasing demand for examination, treatment of orthopedic injuries, rehabilitation and health care for people in the Mekong Delta.
