Eddy Merckx successfully took revenge on Caudron
The highlight match of the quarter-finals of the Gwangju Billiards World Cup 2025 is the competition between two veteran Belgian players: Eddy Merckx and Frederic Caudron. This match also recreates the final of the 2025 World Championship held in Belgium in October, where the genius Caudron defeated Merckx to win the most prestigious arena of 3-cushion carom for the 4th time.
In the rematch on November 8, Eddy Merkx did not let that happen again. Merckx played extremely well with consecutive series. He entered the game with a series of 5 points on the first turn. On the 9th turn, Merckx scored the highest series of the match, 14 points. From the 12th to the 15th turns, Merckx scored series of 4, 4, 5 and 8 points. The match ended after only 16 turns, and Caudron received a final defeat of 37-50.

Caudron also scored very evenly, with 2 series of 6 points and 2 series of 5 points. However, facing an opponent who played too enthusiastically, the reigning world champion had to leave the game.
In the semi-finals, Eddy Merckx faced Korean prodigy Cho Myung-woo. Previously, in the quarter-finals of the Korean billiards, Cho Myung-woo defeated Choi Wang-young with a score difference of 50-23 (29 shots).
Marco Zanetti wins a thrilling match
The quarter-finals also witnessed a fierce competition until the last minute between two of Europe's top players, Marco Zanetti (Italy) and Tasdemir Tayfun (Türkiye). The two players gave an eye-catching match, competing fiercely from start to finish. In the end, Marco Zanetti won a narrow 50-49 victory over Tasdemir Tayfun, after 32 rounds.
