Bao Lam: Prioritizing the development of processing industry associated with raw material sources

Bao Lam district is focusing on attracting investment to develop the processing industry associated with local strengths such as coffee, tea, mulberry, fruit trees and minerals. This is an important direction to promote sustainable socio -economic development of the locality.

• ABUNDANT RAW MATERIALS

Bao Lam is a locality where more than 80% of the population lives on agriculture with main crops such as coffee, tea, durian, avocado and mulberry. After 30 years of construction and development, Bao Lam agriculture has made great strides towards high-tech agriculture and achieved many impressive results. Coffee, tea, mulberry and fruit tree production areas applying science and technology have been formed in association with commodity production chains.

Currently, Bao Lam has nearly 37,000 hectares of coffee, basically converted and grafted with high-yield and high-quality varieties. In 2024, the average yield of coffee in Bao Lam district is estimated to reach over 3.5 tons of beans/ha. Meanwhile, tea trees cover an area of nearly 5,900 hectares, with the area applying high technology reaching over 92.5%, the average yield reaching 16.5 tons of fresh buds/ha/year. Particularly, the area of quality Oolong tea in Bao Lam is about 1,200 hectares. Along with that, mulberry and silkworm farming in Bao Lam district are being invested in and developed and have reached over 800 hectares. Similarly, durian trees are focused on by people and have reached a total area of nearly 6,500 hectares, bringing high economic efficiency. In addition, there are many other types of fruit trees in the district such as avocado, passion fruit and macadamia. In the overall agricultural sector, Bao Lam has more than 16,000 hectares of various crops produced using high technology in the direction of biosafety.

Chairman of Bao Lam District People's Committee Truong Hoai Minh said: With the available potential and advantages, in recent years, the locality has always focused on implementing many programs and projects for people to focus on developing agriculture in the direction of high technology, intelligence, and biosafety. By the end of 2024, the locality will have 64 OCOP products reaching 3-star and 4-star levels... ensuring competitiveness in the domestic market and serving exports. Thereby, it is affirmed that Bao Lam agriculture has created an abundant and quality source of coffee, tea and other strong products to serve the agricultural processing industry.

Along with its agricultural strengths, Bao Lam is considered a locality with abundant mineral resources. The bauxite mining industry stands out. In recent years, the Lam Dong Bauxite - Aluminum Project has been operated and produced by Lam Dong Aluminum Company, with a capacity of over 750,000 tons of aluminum per year. This is one of the leading enterprises in the country in mineral exploitation; at the same time, it creates stable jobs for a large number of local workers.

• PRIORITIZE THE DEVELOPMENT OF PROCESSING INDUSTRY

With rich and diverse agricultural and mineral resources, Bao Lam is considered a locality with many potentials and advantages for industrial and commercial development, especially processing industry associated with agricultural products such as coffee, tea, mulberry, fruit trees and bauxite mining... Thereby, creating a premise for investors interested in developing the processing industry and long-term association with Bao Lam district in particular and Lam Dong province in general.

According to statistics, the whole district has 482 enterprises operating in the fields of industry, handicrafts, hydropower, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, agricultural processing, tourism and services. Along with that, there are 93 projects granted investment certificates and investment policy decisions by the Provincial People's Committee, with a total registered capital of over VND 20,775 billion, land use area of 12,163.71 hectares. Of which, there are 71 projects in operation, with an investment capital of over VND 20,392 billion; 16 projects are implementing items, with an investment capital of VND 383.51 billion and 6 projects are preparing for investment. The industry sector alone has 48 enterprises operating, mainly in the fields of agricultural processing industry and mineral exploitation and processing.

Currently, Loc Thang Industrial Cluster has 7 enterprises operating in production and business, with an occupancy rate of 61%. In addition, industrial retail points have been formed, concentrating factories, production facilities, and agricultural processing facilities associated with raw material areas such as tea, coffee, etc. in communes and towns, contributing to creating jobs for people and promoting local economic development.

Along with the processing industry, Bao Lam district is focusing on attracting investment in many projects associated with potentials and strengths, such as: Building eco-tourism - resort areas of Loc Thang lake (300 ha), Tan Rai lake (145 ha), Dak Long Thuong lake (500 ha), Dak Le lake (300 ha); Ta Dung - Bao Lam medicinal herb development combined tourism area (5,000 ha) and Golf course - hotel - trade - resort villa complex project on 300 ha bauxite restoration land; building high-quality commercial and residential areas in the district; building resettlement areas to serve Tan Phu - Bao Loc and Bao Loc - Lien Khuong projects; building the district administrative center and commercial - service - tourism area of Loc Thang town...
