Hundreds of people were evacuated earlier as the storm, which had winds of more than 144 km/h, brought heavy rain and flooding to parts of the UK. Several communities were cut off by floodwaters, while a man in his 50s in Bath died after a tree fell on his car on January 2. The storm and flooding also caused power outages and disrupted rail and road traffic in the UK.
Heavy rains also flooded several houses in the town of Arques in northern France. A woman died in the Belgian province of East Flanders on January 2 when a fence was blown away by strong winds during heavy rain. Meanwhile, in northern European countries such as Norway, Sweden and Finland, plunging temperatures and heavy snowfall have affected many activities in some areas.
