Urgent dyke protection in 7 localities against storm No. 9

On the afternoon of September 23, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment sent an urgent dispatch to the People's Committees of 7 coastal provinces and cities from Quang Ninh to Ha Tinh regarding the implementation of work to ensure the safety of the dike system in response to storm No. 9 (Ragasa) and heavy rain and floods.

According to the meteorological agency, from early morning on September 25, coastal areas from Quang Ninh to Thanh Hoa will have strong winds of level 9-10, gusting to level 12, accompanied by rising water and large waves that can cause landslides, threatening dykes and seawalls. Along with that, from the night of September 24 to 26, the Northern region and Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces will have heavy to very heavy rain, posing a risk of flooding on many rivers, threatening the safety of dykes.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requests localities to strictly implement the Prime Minister's Official Dispatch No. 170; urgently inspect, review, reinforce and protect key dyke points, especially sections facing the sea such as K10-K15 Ha Nam dyke (Quang Ninh), Nam Hai dyke (Hai Phong), Dong Minh dyke (Hung Yen), Binh Minh sea dyke (Ninh Binh), Quang Nham dyke, Hai Binh dyke (Thanh Hoa), Dien Thanh dyke, Quynh Tho dyke (Nghe An), Hoi Thong dyke, Cam Nhuong dyke (Ha Tinh)...

In the dispatch, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment also requested to strengthen inspection, patrol, guard, and prepare forces, materials, and means to handle incidents according to the "4 on-site" principle, ensuring safety for the dikes. Localities must closely monitor the developments of storms, floods, and promptly report incidents to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment for coordination and direction.

According to the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention, 7 localities have received the dispatch, including: Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh. These are provinces and cities with important sea dykes, directly facing the risk of being affected by super typhoon Ragasa.
