Storm Nongfa makes landfall in northern Quang Tri and southern Ha Tinh

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 4:00 p.m. today, storm Nongfa (storm number 6) made landfall in the northern Quang Tri - southern Ha Tinh region and weakened into a tropical depression.

Due to the impact of storm Nongfa, coastal areas in Nghe An and Ha Tinh recorded strong winds of level 6-7, gusting to level 8-9.

It is forecasted that in the next 6-12 hours, the tropical depression will move inland, move to Central Laos, weaken and gradually dissipate.

Previously, at 1:00 p.m. the same day, the storm center was in the coastal area of ​​Ha Tinh - Quang Tri . The strongest wind near the storm center was level 8 (62-74 km/h), gusting to level 10-11.

Due to the storm's influence, in Bach Long Vi special zone ( Hai Phong ), there are strong winds of level 7, gusts of level 9; Co To station (Quang Ninh) has strong winds of level 7, gusts of level 8; Hon Ngu station (Nghe An) has strong winds of level 6, gusts of level 9, waves 2.5m high; Con Co station (Quang Tri) has strong winds of level 6, gusts of level 8; Do Luong station (Nghe An) has gusts of level 10; Hoanh Son station (Ha Tinh) has strong winds of level 6, gusts of level 7;...

The sea area from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri (including Hon Ngu island and Con Co special zone) has stormy rain, strong winds of level 6-7, near the storm's eye it is strong at level 8, gusting to level 10; waves are 2-4m high, near the storm's eye it is 3-5m high, rough seas.

The sea area north of Bac Bo Gulf has strong winds of level 6, sometimes level 7, gusting to level 9, waves 2-4m high, rough seas.

Coastal areas from Nghe An to Hue provinces have water levels rising from 0.2-0.4m.

On the mainland coastal provinces from Nghe An to Quang Tri, the wind will gradually increase to level 6, gusting to level 8. Particularly on the mainland coastal Ha Tinh - North Quang Tri, it will be level 6-7, near the storm center, level 8, gusting to level 10.

"Storm No. 6 can cause strong winds of level 8, gusting to level 10-11 on land. This wind level can break tree branches, blow off roofs, and cause damage to houses" - the meteorological agency warned at 1:00 p.m.

From this afternoon until the end of August 31, the area from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri will have heavy to very heavy rain with common rainfall of 100-220mm, locally over 400mm.

The midland and northern delta regions have moderate to heavy rain, and locally very heavy rain with common rainfall of 50-120mm, and in some places over 250mm.

To proactively respond to storm No. 6 and the floods caused by the storm, on August 30, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed a telegram from the Prime Minister requesting provinces from Thanh Hoa to Hue to call for and guide boats and vehicles to safe shelters from the storm and to guide and support people to anchor safely. Especially be on guard against thunderstorms and lightning that could cause damage before the storm directly affects.

Proactively arrange forces, means and organize the implementation of evacuation support and relocation of people in weak housing areas, low-lying residential areas, areas at risk of coastal and riverine landslides, and areas at risk of flash floods and landslides.

Absolutely do not let people stay on boats, rafts, and aquaculture huts when the storm directly affects them.

The Prime Minister assigned the Minister of Industry and Trade to direct the work of ensuring the safety of hydroelectric dams and reservoirs, ensuring the safety of the power system, taking proactive measures to respond to incidents in areas forecast to be at high risk of being isolated due to flooding and landslides, and ensuring the supply of essential goods.
