Throughout thousands of years of Chinese domination, although feudal etiquette and the ideology of male superiority and female inferiority weighed heavily on women, Vietnamese women still rose up to preserve the cultural values of the nation. Through two resistance wars against France and the US, Vietnamese heroic mothers and female martyrs did not spare the blood and bones of their children and themselves to continue writing the glorious history of the nation, creating the tradition of Heroism - Indomitable - Loyal - Responsible of Vietnamese women.
In order to practically contributeto educating the tradition and preserving the precious cultural quintessence of Vietnamese women for future generations in order to arouse the spirit of patriotism and national pride, our Party, State and people always affirm and honor the great contributions of Vietnamese women to the cause of defending the Fatherland and building the country. Many cultural and information institutions of the State have performed well the task of propagating and educating the tradition of Vietnamese women. However, in the face of the practical development of the women's movement, the establishment of the Vietnamese Women's Museum - a unique cultural institution, with the function of researching, collecting, displaying and scientifically educating about the position, role and great contributions of Vietnamese women to the nation, through documents and artifacts that are closely associated with and directly reflect the fields of activities of Vietnamese women, has become an urgent requirement. From that awareness, the Party and the State allowed the Vietnam Women's Union to establish the Vietnam Women's Museum. On January 10, 1987, Chairman of the Council of Ministers Pham Van Dong signed the decision to establish the Vietnam Women's Museum. After a period of urgent and active preparation of content and facilities, on October 20, 1995, the Vietnam Women's Museum was inaugurated and opened to the public. The establishment of the Vietnam Women's Museum is an objective reality that reflects the guiding viewpoint of the Party and the State and the people's correct assessment of the great contributions of generations of Vietnamese women in history, especially in the revolutionary cause led by the Party and President Ho Chi Minh. The establishment of the Vietnam Women's Museum has contributed to the system of Vietnamese museums a new model - Gender Museum, and at the same time affirmed the results of a persistent and continuous process of striving for the goal of cultural gender equality of Vietnamese women.
Although it was established later than many other museums in the Vietnamese museum system, with the motto of active innovation, dynamism, and creativity, based on the experience of previous museums, the Vietnam Women's Museum has soon affirmed its role and position as a cultural and educational institution of the State and the Vietnam Women's Union. Together with other cultural institutions of the Vietnam Women's Union such as the Vietnam Women's Newspaper and the Women's Publishing House, these propaganda agencies have contributed to helping the Union fly higher and further to achieve the goal of peace, equality, and development of Vietnamese women.
The Vietnam Women's Museum was built on the basis of the idea of combining national and modern characteristics and has in fact kept pace with the trend of a modern museum. The museum has fully and vividly demonstrated the fine traditions of Vietnamese women, recreated the history of formation and development of the Vietnam Women's Union, the international activities of the Union, especially distilled to highlight the unique cultural features of women of Vietnamese ethnic groups in a scientific and vivid way. Through its activities, the Vietnam Women's Museum has played an important role in educating the general public and members of the Vietnam Women's Union about traditions. In addition, the museum has also contributed to promoting and introducing the images and culture of Vietnamese women to international friends. Many organizations and individuals at home and abroad have learned about the activities of the Union through this special propaganda channel.
After 10 years of operation, the Vietnam Women's Museum has become close to the public, especially to women's union members nationwide. Overall, the Vietnam Women's Museum, although modest in scale, is very charming and intimate. Coming here, each woman feels like seeing images of herself or her loved ones, and has the feeling of returning to a "common home". Many women after visiting the Museum expressed their feelings: "I feel very lucky because I am a Vietnamese woman". Since the establishment of the Vietnam Women's Museum, women's union members from all over the country, every time they visit the capital Hanoi, have chosen the Museum as a destination not to be missed in their sightseeing itinerary.
Not stopping at the scope of the house at 36 Ly Thuong Kiet, Hanoi, in recent times, besides the activities held at the Museum, the Vietnam Women's Museum has organized many mobile exhibitions in localities, especially remote areas to serve the people and women - those who do not have the conditions to visit Hanoi. In 2003, 2004 and the first 6 months of 2005 alone, the Vietnam Women's Museum organized more than 20 mobile exhibitions in the provinces of Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dien Bien, Son La, Phu Tho, Can Tho, An Giang, Dong Thap, Ha Tay and universities and high schools in Hanoi. This is a very practical activity to implement the policy of orienting activities towards the grassroots level of the Central Presidium of the Women's Union in the spirit of the Resolution of the 9th National Women's Congress.
For international friends - diplomatic delegations, high-ranking guests, wives of heads of state and partners of the Vietnam Women's Union... When visiting the Vietnam Women's Museum, they are all amazed and proud that Vietnamese women have their own Museum. In the Museum's Golden Book, they have recorded their feelings and good impressions expressing their affection and admiration for Vietnamese women. The Vietnam Women's Museum has truly become a bridge of information to help international friends not only understand more fully and correctly about Vietnamese women but also have access to them, thereby having good impressions of a heroic, kind and loyal Vietnamese people.
In the current trend of innovation, the Vietnam Women's Museum has been constantly diversifying its methods of operation to integrate with the general innovation of the country. In performing its functions and tasks, the Museum has closely followed the core tasks of the Association to organize practical activities to serve political events, major holidays of the country and the Association, typically exhibitions serving the National Women's Congress, serving the competition of excellent cadres of ethnic minorities in the Central Highlands, serving the conference to honor outstanding ethnic and religious women of the Southern provinces, the exhibition to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Ba Dam Dang women's movement, the exhibition of "souvenirs of female revolutionary soldiers in the American-puppet prison" and the exchange of "Former female political prisoners with students" on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification... In 2005, implementing Resolution No. 35 - NQ/TW of the Politburo dated February 9, 2004 on the organization of major holidays in the two years 2004 - 2005. The Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union organized a pilgrimage to the source to propagate and educate the tradition of the Union for cadres and women members. Assigned by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union, the Vietnam Women's Museum actively advised and prepared well the activities of Returning to the Source: Building a memorial stele of the relic; organizing meaningful activities to create conditions for women nationwide to visit the relic where the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union lived and worked during the resistance war against French colonialism in Viet Bac (Thai Nguyen and Tuyen Quang) and where the Central Committee of the Women's Union for the Liberation of South Vietnam lived and worked during the resistance war against American imperialism in Tay Ninh. These activities have contributed to arousing the pride and tradition of "When drinking water, remember its source" of generations of Vietnamese women, practically contributing to the good implementation of the spirit of the 5th Central Resolution of the 7th Party Congress on building and developing an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity.
Ten years of operation mark a difficult and also very proud journey of a young museum. Realizing the role and position of the Vietnam Women's Museum in the system of propaganda agencies of the Vietnam Women's Union, and at the same time clearly seeing the particularly important role of traditional propaganda and education in implementing women's mobilization work in the new period in the spirit of Resolution 04 of the new period in the spirit of Resolution 04 of the Politics, the Vietnam Women's Union is Politics, the Vietnam Women's Union is trying to invest in upgrading the Women's Museum is trying to invest in upgrading the Vietnam Women's Museum in both content and facilities to be worthy of the stature of a national museum. The task ahead is very heavy, the Museum needs to promote initiative, find suitable directions to attract more and more visitors and serve the public better and better. Each staff and the Museum's leadership also need to invest efforts in researching, collecting, and organizing many new, intellectual thematic exhibitions to highlight the special role of Vietnamese women in the family as "interior ministers ", who play a leading role in creating, preserving and transmitting family cultural values, contributing to the creation of the common cultural identity of the nation. This is a work of profound human significance and will make an important contribution to the formation and education of personality for the younger generation, especially young women. At the same time, research to adjust and upgrade the exhibition system of the Vietnam Women's Museum to meet the requirements of the new era.
