The traditional weaving profession of the Thai ethnic group in Yen Khuong is preserved by the people.
Accordingly, the Department of Culture and Society has advised the Party Committee and the People's Committee of Yen Khuong commune to regularly propagate and mobilize people to promote the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life in residential areas"; build a cultural and civilized lifestyle; build families, villages, and agencies with good cultural life closely following the goals and orientations for cultural and social development in the spirit of Resolution 5 of the Central Committee (VIII term) on "Building an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity" and directives and resolutions of the Party and State on the work of preserving and promoting traditional cultural values; regularly organize cultural and sports exchange activities.
Most of the people here are living in traditional stilt houses; 95% of households still maintain the brocade weaving profession with products such as shirts, skirts, and Pieu scarves. Notably, in Tu Chieng village, there are still over 40 households preserving the traditional weaving profession. Mr. Lo Van Quang - a famous weaver in the village said, "Most of the weaving products are associated with farming and household items such as winnowing baskets, rice baskets, rattan trays, baskets, etc. The weaving profession is being passed down to the younger generation by the people."
In addition, many people in the commune still preserve the ancient Thai script, wedding customs, and the custom of making a soul. The games and folk performances that are preserved by the people include: Khap, jumping bamboo poles, stirring bamboo poles, throwing con, beating gongs, shooting crossbows, tug of war, singing and dancing... These games and performances are often held on holidays and New Year's...
