Barcelona could play La Liga matches in the US this season. |
According to RAC1 , Barcelona expects to earn around 5-6 million euros if the La Liga round 17 match with Villarreal is held at Hard Rock Stadium (Miami, USA) on December 20, 2025. This is a step in the plan to globalize the La Liga brand and expand the market in North America.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) executive board has given the green light to the proposal, but the match still needs formal approval from UEFA and FIFA. If approved, it would be the first time in history that a La Liga match has been played outside of Spain.
However, this plan is facing many opposing opinions. Some fans and experts believe that moving the location will lose home field advantage and affect the interests of local fans. Notably, according to Cadena SER, many captains of La Liga clubs confirmed that they were not informed about this plan in advance.
While Villarreal has shown a willingness to “cooperate” to create a historic event, Barca can see this as an opportunity to both promote the brand and add a significant source of revenue in a context that still has many financial challenges. The final decision is expected to be made in the near future, and if favorable, the Villarreal - Barcelona match in Miami promises to be a new milestone for Spanish football on the global map.
