US presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are in a tight race in battleground states like Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina. According to a poll released on September 26, former US President Donald Trump and current Vice President Kamala Harris are in a deadlock in the election race in three important battleground states: Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina. The poll conducted by Marist College shows that both Mr. Trump and Ms. Harris are supported by 49% of voters in North Carolina. In Arizona and Georgia, Mr. Trump leads his opponent by 1 percentage point, with 50% of voters in both states saying they would support him, while the number for Ms. Harris is 49%.

The poll, conducted from September 19 to 24, surveyed 4,643 registered voters in the three states who said they would vote in November, with 91% of those voters saying they were certain of their choice. The three battleground states will have a total of 43 electoral votes. Trump won North Carolina in 2016 and 2020. He also defeated then-Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in Arizona and Georgia in 2016, but lost to President Joe Biden in 2020, the first time a Democratic candidate won Georgia since 1992. Trump has disputed the Georgia vote, claiming the election was rigged. This claim has been denied by many state officials, including Republican Governor Brian Kemp. Another poll conducted by the Siena College Research Institute in August showed Harris with a significant lead over Trump in three other battleground states: Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan. According to the poll, the vice president was projected to have a 50% to 46% support in all three states. However, the final margin between Biden and Trump was not as large as previously predicted four years ago. A national poll released by the New York Times on September 26 also showed Harris leading Trump by 3 percentage points. However, the newspaper noted that the former president could “easily win” if he wins a number of key states, such as Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Nevada, where Harris currently leads by no more than 2 percentage points.
