4-year-old girl infected with multiple types of liver and lung flukes...

On May 17, Dang Van Ngu Hospital, Central Institute of Malaria - Parasitology - Entomology, said it had just received a special case of a 4-year-old girl in Ta Ngao commune, Sin Ho, Lai Chau province.

The child was admitted to the hospital in a conscious state, with a swollen nodule on the left lateral abdominal wall and flank, mild pain when examining the epigastric region and left lateral abdominal wall and flank, and eating little.

Children are assigned to do blood cell analysis tests with 22 indexes, biochemistry, immunology, concentrated stool examination, and antibody tests for liver flukes, lung flukes, etc.

According to the doctor, the child had a liver and bile abscess and ectopic position in the abdominal wall muscle due to large liver flukes co-infected with lung flukes, roundworms, and small liver flukes.

Liver fluke disease usually occurs when eating raw vegetables containing worm larvae or drinking water containing infective larvae. The above child case has attracted the attention of experts due to ectopic liver flukes co-infected with lung flukes.

According to the family, about 2 months ago, the child had pain in the epigastric region, left flank, accompanied by fever, but because the child had measles, the family did not take him to the doctor. Recently, the child still had pain in the epigastric region, so he was taken to the local hospital for examination.

Here, the child was found to have liver damage, so he was transferred to the National Children's Hospital ( Hanoi ). The child was monitored for liver damage caused by parasites and treated with 1.5 tablets of Praziquantel 600mg, however, the child still had pain in the epigastric region and the left abdominal wall, accompanied by fever and dry cough.

The young parents are farmers. Every day after school, the children stay home to play with their older siblings and often grill stone crabs to eat.
