The strong vitality of Van Don peach blossoms

In early September 2024, when storm No. 3 - storm Yagi made landfall in Quang Ninh, Van Don district was the place that suffered the most damage.

The entire Van Don district has about 70 hectares of peach blossom growing area with more than 300 households participating, mainly concentrated in Ha Long commune (50 hectares), Dong Xa, Binh Dan, Doan Ket and Cai Rong town. After storm Yagi, about 20% of the peach blossom growing area was damaged. The rest was also affected by the storm. However, thanks to the care of gardeners, the peach trees have revived and the flower buds are ready to bloom to welcome the new spring. In the Lunar New Year 2025, peach growers in Van Don district will supply the market with about 60,000 peach trees.

"My family currently has 2 peach gardens with about 600 trees. At this time, all the peach trees have been sold and there are not enough to sell. Van Don peach trees are the same every year. Big trees are sold for 10-20 million VND/tree; small trees are also sold for 5-7 million VND/tree. The recent storm No. 3 also damaged dozens of trees. If there had not been a storm, the family would have earned several hundred million VND more," said Mr. Ban.

According to Mr. Dao Van Vu - Vice Chairman of Van Don District People's Committee: "Up to now, Van Don Peach Blossom Fair has had more than 30 households registered to participate with about more than 1,000 peach blossom trees. Among them, there are many beautiful, unique, rare peach trees with high economic value".

Despite many challenges from natural disasters, Van Don peach blossoms still affirm their strong vitality, adding more spring colors to Van Don land in particular and Quang Ninh in the Spring of At Ty 2025.

Van Don peach blossoms usually grow naturally in forests and mountains. From around 1978-1979, many families in Van Don island district brought peach blossoms from the rocky mountains to plant in their gardens to get fruit and flowers for Tet.

After many years, peach gardens gradually formed in coastal communes and became a famous flower in Quang Ninh.

The special thing about Van Don peach blossoms is that they grow and bloom in a barren environment, with the addition of fog and wind from the sea, so the tree trunk is rough and rugged, but the flowers are very large and beautiful. When they first bloom, the peach blossoms have 5 pink petals, then gradually fade, the end of the petals are light purple, the flowers are large and fresh, and they bloom for 15-20 days before falling off.
