On the evening of July 18, the semi-finals 2 of Sing! Asia aired, revealing the competition of 8 singers.
Phuong My Chi competed against female singer Ai Tan Giac La Mi (China). The singer born in 2003 chose the song "Vu tru co anh" (The Universe Has You), wearing a pink outfit to create a unique look.
In the voting section, Phuong My Chi received 1 vote from Truong Luong Dinh. In the second round, judge Lee Seung Hyun voted for Ai Tan Giac La Mi.
Su You Peng then voted for Fong Mei Chi, giving her a 2-1 advantage over her opponent. When it came to the online judges' voting, Fong Mei Chi received 15 votes, while Ai Tan Gio La Mi received 4 votes.
In the end, the Vietnamese representative overwhelmingly defeated the singer from China with a score of 17-7. This result put Phuong My Chi in the top 4 contestants in the final round of Sing! Asia.
"The Universe Has You" is a hit by Phuong My Chi, inspired by the image of Tam in Vietnamese fairy tales, depicting a woman's journey to find a better version of herself.
At Sing! Asia, Phuong My Chi's performance brought a blend of traditional Ca Tru and modern EDM, meticulously processed by DTAP.
DTAP and Phuong My Chi hope to bring the image of "new-age Tam" to the international stage as a symbol of modern and brave Vietnamese beauty.
She also collaborated with a saxophonist on stage to bring modern symphonic material to the international arena.
At the end of episode 8, judge Truong Luong Dinh gave advice to the 8 contestants after the duet: “You should not give in to each other. When practicing together, show off your full potential, show each other's limits. Only then can you balance and find the most explosive performance.”
Phuong My Chi's opponents in the second semi-final include: Ai Tan Giac La Mi (China), Amsyar (Malaysia), Miyuna (Japan), Chu Phi Ca (China), Kha Lau (China), Vuong Hong Hao (China) and Flower.far (Thailand).
