Unique Bentley Continental GT Azure, paying tribute to the 70th anniversary of the legendary R-Type

Recently, the luxury car company Bentley created a unique Continental GT Azure inspired by the 1953 Bentley R-Type Continental, codenamed JAS 949.

This one-off Bentley Continental GT Azure was created to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the JAS 949, one of the greatest icons in the history of the British luxury car brand.

The ultra-luxury Bentley R-Type Continental, launched in 1952, was the world's fastest four-seater saloon at the time, and was dubbed "the magic carpet that can shorten the longest distances". Only 208 were ever produced, powered by a 4.6-liter straight-six engine that produced 155 horsepower.

In 1953, a Bentley customer, Swiss Dr. Rowland Guenin, ordered an R-Type Continental with an Ivory White exterior and red interior. Later in 2001, Bentley bought the car and restored it to its factory-fresh condition.

The new 2023 Bentley Continental GT Azure is painted in Old English White, similar to the ivory white on the 1953 R-Type Continental. In addition, many exterior details of the car are plated in bright chrome, including the grille.

The car is equipped with 22-inch hand-finished wheels with a glossy black metal shell. Inside, the Cricket Ball brown leather is used to create a classic feel similar to the color of the JAS 949 interior, the seats are covered with hand-crafted Beluga leather for added accents.

The dashboard is covered in Burr Walnut veneer with three layers of ultra-thin lacquer, just 0.1 mm thick, hand-polished to match the finish of the JAS 949.

The new Bentley Continental Azure also uses Australian straight-grain veneer with diagonal banding, boxwood inlays and a rich gold finish. The door sills feature a logo that reflects the uniqueness of the 70th Anniversary Special Edition.

The car uses a 4.0L V8 engine with a capacity of 542 horsepower, 4-wheel drive. Azure versions of the Continental GT line since 2022 have many characteristic details such as the Bentley "B" logo on the pedal set, mood lighting, heated steering wheel and illuminated door sills...

In addition, the car is also equipped with the Front Seat Comfort package with 22-way adjustable seats, 6 massage modes, adjustable side cushions with airbags and electric seat belts that adjust to body size.

Ensuring safety is the Bentley Dynamic Ride system with active anti-roll bars to prevent the car from leaning when cornering. Adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, traffic sign recognition and an infrared camera to detect pedestrians, cyclists or animals.

The new 2023 Bentley Continental GT Azure is a limited edition of just one, finished by Mulliner. There is no price tag, as it will join Bentley's test fleet in the UK for the media.
