The website shared a link to a video posted on YouTube by the British Ministry of Defense , in which the ministry said that trainers “began to familiarize Ukrainian gunners, loaders and commanders with depleted uranium ammunition for the Challenger 2 tank.”
According to the portal, an American soldier was also present at the training session.
Earlier in the UK, Ukrainian tank crews completed training to operate Challenger 2 tanks. The joint combat training lasted several weeks. It is known that these soldiers are now in Ukraine.
Britain confirmed on March 20 that it would deliver depleted uranium armor-piercing shells to Ukraine. The shells have superior anti-armor capabilities and will be part of a weapons shipment that also includes Challenger 2 main battle tanks.
Russia opposes the plan, saying the ammunition will harm Ukrainian soldiers and civilians, as well as negatively impact the Eastern European country's agriculture .
In another development related to weapons aid, also on March 27, Slovak President Zuzana Caputova said that resources for military aid to Kiev "are not endless".
According to Ms. Caputova, since the conflict broke out in neighboring Ukraine, Slovakia has repeatedly helped Kiev, including providing weapons and military equipment. However, up to now, the problem of exhausted resources for supporting Ukraine is a common situation and Slovakia is "the most exhausted".
The Slovak President stressed that the country needs to increase investment in the domestic defense industry, first of all to ensure national defense capabilities.
Meanwhile, Spiegel newspaper reported on the same day that Germany had handed over 18 Leopard 2 tanks and about 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine in the border area.
Earlier, the German Cabinet announced the decision to transfer 14 Leopard 2A6 tanks to Ukraine. In addition, Berlin will allow other countries to re-export Leopard 2 tanks.
Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergei Nechaev called Kiev's decision to transfer Leopard 2 tanks to the Kiev government "extremely dangerous" and "bringing the conflict to a new level of confrontation".
The "difficult path of post-war reconciliation between the Russians and the Germans" is being forgotten, Mr Nechaev added.
