Faced with the prolonged heavy rains causing serious flooding, the provincial Border Guard deployed 310 officers and soldiers along with 7 canoes and boats of various types to vulnerable areas to support the people. At the same time, the border guards organized to receive 21 households with 142 people to take shelter safely at the border guards' stations and posts when the floodwaters rose too quickly.

Right from the beginning of the flood, working groups of Dak Lak Border Guard were present in each locality, closely monitoring developments and proactively evacuating people from dangerous areas. Up to now, the force has supported the evacuation of 386 households with 1,327 people to safety; transported necessary assets, reinforced houses and initially handled many slopes and mountain slopes at risk of landslides.

With the motto of not letting people be isolated, not letting anyone be left behind in dangerous areas, all officers and soldiers stick close to the area, directly approaching each residential area to be ready to rescue and evacuate people to safety.

In Binh Thanh neighborhood, Xuan Dai ward - where floodwaters rose more than 1.5 m high - many households were completely isolated. When discovering a house where a mother and child were trapped, including a 2-month-old baby, Xuan Dai Border Guard Station immediately deployed forces to approach. The strong currents made moving extremely dangerous, officers and soldiers had to use anchor ropes as support, wading through the water to reach the second floor of the house. The baby was purple from the cold, the mother was panicked and lost her composure. After calming them down, the working group used a basket to carry the mother and child across the deep water to safety.

In Tuy An Dong commune, floodwaters cut off many areas, making it difficult to evacuate people. Upon receiving news that a pregnant woman was in labor in a deep flooded area and needed to be taken out of the dangerous area urgently, officers and soldiers of An Hai Border Guard Station immediately used their vehicles to overcome slippery roads and strong currents to take the pregnant woman to the O Loan commune health station.

However, the conditions at the medical station were not sufficient to ensure the birth, so the team had to continue taking the mother to Viet My Hospital in Tuy Hoa Ward. When they reached Dien Hoi village, the floodwaters cut off the road, and the vehicle could not continue. The team quickly transferred the mother to a basket boat, overcoming the rapids in the dark. Thanks to the smooth coordination and determination of the team, the mother was received and treated promptly that evening.

In Xuan Canh and Xuan Loc communes, Xuan Hoa Border Guard Station has supported the evacuation of hundreds of households and many valuable assets. Many cows and livestock of households were also brought to highlands to protect people's livelihoods after the flood. Directly supporting the people with Border Guard officers and soldiers, Mr. Bui Ngoc Tam, Chairman of Xuan Canh Commune People's Committee shared: "The family's biggest asset is the cow. Thanks to the timely pulling to a safe place, the family suffered less damage."

During the response process, there were many times when communication was interrupted, forcing officers and soldiers to use walkie-talkies to transmit live or divide into small working groups to go into each village and residential area to grasp the situation. Border guards arranged dozens of mobile teams, carrying medicine, life jackets, and rescue ropes to isolated areas to check, make lists, and coordinate evacuation in order of priority.

It is forecasted that in the coming days, heavy rain will continue to occur, the risk of flooding is very high, many areas are still potentially dangerous, especially in low-lying areas, along rivers and streams and residential areas near the foothills, Dak Lak Provincial Border Guard continues to maintain 100% of its troops on duty, increase forces to the area, support people to reinforce houses, brace vulnerable positions, and organize on-duty at points at risk of landslides, arrange forces and vehicles ready to respond when situations arise.
