Thanh Hoa Border Guards propagate and call on ships and boats to enter safe storm shelters during storm No. 3.
The Thanh Hoa Coastal Border Guard is currently managing and protecting the sovereignty and security of the sea border with a length of more than 102km. In order to create more strength and confidence for fishermen, in recent times, the coastal border guard has coordinated with relevant departments, branches and units to deploy many effective movements and models, such as: "Self-managed boat and ship safety teams", "Self-managed security and order teams at sea". By participating in the models, fishermen are regularly informed about the law, build solidarity, help each other go out to sea and stick to the sea. Fishermen also actively and proactively provide valuable information about the security situation at sea, together with the Border Guard to maintain the sovereignty and security of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
On July 21, 2025, on the way to shore to avoid and take shelter from storm No. 3, two unlicensed vehicles with engines under 20CV owned by fishermen Le Doan Nghia (born in 1973) and Pham Van May (born in 1980), both residing in Tien Loi quarter, Sam Son ward, stalled at the estuary. Upon receiving the information, Sam Son Border Guard Station promptly organized forces and vehicles to rescue, using winches to tow the two vehicles to the anchorage area to avoid the storm, bringing the two fishermen safely ashore.
At 4:30 a.m. on June 8, 2025, while exploiting seafood at sea, the fishing boat with license plate TH 30035 TS, capacity 45CV, length 9.4m, owned by Mr. Le Van Yen, with 2 crew members on board, stalled and drifted at sea. Due to heavy rain and big waves, water flooded into the hold and sank the boat. After receiving information from the unit's rescue and relief force, Hoang Truong Border Guard Station deployed a force of 10 officers and soldiers to quickly approach the location of the distressed vehicle. Although the weather was rainy and windy, making rescue work difficult, with a sense of urgency and responsibility, the working group of Hoang Truong Border Guard Station successfully approached, promptly salvaged the vehicle and rescued people and brought them to shore to ensure safety. At 1:00 p.m. the same day, Hoang Truong Border Guard Station notified Da Loc Border Guard Station, coordinated with the local authorities of Da Loc commune and the family to bring the vehicle to the repair area.
Through the system of watchtowers and rescue information stations, the Border Guard units promptly notified and called on ships to move to avoid storms and tropical depressions and handle situations. The team of officers and employees in charge of this work are well-trained, ensuring that they receive information from fishermen and provide timely rescue support, minimizing losses to fishermen.
In addition to modern means in natural disaster prevention, search and rescue, the Border Guard always pays attention to training, propagating and mobilizing the people to actively and proactively participate with the Border Guard in search and rescue. From there, the people join hands with the Border Guard to promptly respond to situations that arise. Border Guard units always strictly maintain combat readiness, organize closed patrols to ensure political security, social order and safety in the areas under their responsibility. The units also organize to review and supplement operational documents, deploy plans to protect agencies, stations, warehouses, technical equipment and prevent fires and explosions effectively.
Colonel Le Van Nam, Deputy Commander, Chief of Staff of the Provincial Border Guard Command, said: “In the past time, the Border Guard has overcome the consequences of natural disasters, searched, rescued, and put out forest fires; rescued 62 cases/475 people/47 ships; evacuated 850 households/3,400 people to safe shelters. Called 86,963 ships/371,722 people to safe shelters. Coordinated propaganda to raise awareness and skills in responding to incidents, natural disasters, search and rescue for the people with 31 sessions/2,842 participants. The Provincial Border Guard has always proactively coordinated forces, ready to mobilize to handle all situations. Each rescue case, each time dealing with natural disasters is a test of the bravery, sense of responsibility and loyalty to the Fatherland and the people of the Border Guard force."
Implementing the Project "Improving the capacity to respond to natural disasters and search and rescue in border areas and sea areas of Thanh Hoa province in the period of 2021-2030" of the Provincial People's Committee, the Border Guard has advised the Provincial People's Committee to direct departments and branches to establish 8 rapid mobile teams ready to support the implementation of natural disaster prevention and search and rescue tasks; establish 6 search and rescue teams at sea; establish 11 standing teams for natural disaster prevention and search and rescue in mountainous areas. The Border Guard Command continues to direct units to closely monitor weather developments, thereby promptly adjusting and supplementing appropriate response plans...
Faced with unpredictable weather and climate developments, with a high sense of responsibility, resilience and flexible response capabilities, the Border Guard continues to affirm its core role in preventing, combating and responding to incidents, natural disasters and search and rescue, spreading the beautiful image of border guards in peacetime.
