The Ministry of Construction has just decided to establish a Steering Committee to implement national railway projects.
Minister Tran Hong Minh is the Head of the Committee. The Deputy Heads of the Committee include four Deputy Ministers of Construction: Nguyen Danh Huy, Nguyen Van Sinh, Bui Xuan Dung and Pham Minh Ha.
The steering committee members are department and bureau leaders of the Ministry of Construction. In addition, there is the Chairman of the Board of Members of Vietnam Railway Corporation .
The committee's task is to comprehensively direct the research, implementation, and resolution of related issues to ensure the progress and quality of railway projects implemented by the Ministry of Construction.
According to the Railway Authority, from now until 2030, the construction industry plans to start nine national railway projects, with a total length of 2,362 km.
Specifically, the North-South high-speed railway project is 1,541 km long, starting at Ngoc Hoi station ( Hanoi ) and ending at Thu Thiem station (HCMC). It is a double-track railway, 1,435 mm gauge, with a design speed of 350 km/h.
The Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway is 388 km long, starting at the Chinese railway in Lao Cai, ending at Lach Huyen port station (Hai Phong), passing through nine provinces and cities. The train is designed to have a speed of 160 km/h, transporting both passengers and goods.
The Eastern Belt Railway Project of Hanoi starts at Ngoc Hoi Station and ends at Kim Son Station (Hanoi). The project is about 31 km long, with a passenger train speed of about 120 km/h and a freight train speed of 80 km/h.
The Yen Vien - Pha Lai - Ha Long - Cai Lan railway line is 131km long, starting at Yen Vien station (Hanoi) and ending at Cai Lan station (Quang Ninh).
The Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway project is 42km long, starting at Thu Thiem station (HCMC) and ending at Long Thanh station (located between Long Thanh airport, Dong Nai).
The Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho railway project is over 175km long, starting at An Binh station (Binh Duong province) and ending at Can Tho station (Can Tho city). Passenger trains are designed to run at about 200km/h, and freight trains at 120km/h.
Bien Hoa - Vung Tau railway starts at Trang Bom station (Dong Nai), ends at Vung Tau station (Ba Ria - Vung Tau), is 132 km long, passenger train speed is about 160 km/h, freight train speed is 120 km/h.
The Vung Ang - Mu Gia railway project is 150km long, starting at Vung Ang station (Ha Tinh) and ending at Mu Gia station (Quang Binh). Passenger trains are designed to run at about 120 km/h and freight trains at 80 km/h.
The Thap Cham - Da Lat railway project starts at Thap Cham station (Ninh Thuan) and ends at Da Lat station (Lam Dong). The total length of the route is about 84 km, with a single track of 1,000 mm gauge, with a passenger train speed of 120 km/h and a freight train speed of 80 km/h.
Of the nine projects above, the North-South high-speed railway is considered the most important project and will start construction at the end of 2027.
