Training to improve management and operation skills of tourist accommodation facilities

On November 24, in Lao Cai ward, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinated with tourism experts and university lecturers to organize a training course to improve management and operation skills of tourist accommodation facilities by 2025.

The training course was attended by 40 trainees representing accommodation facilities in the province.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in 2025, Lao Cai province strives to welcome about 10.5 million visitors, including 1.5 million international visitors and 9 million domestic visitors; total tourism revenue reaches over 46,000 billion VND.

However, the quality of human resources is still a major bottleneck in the province's tourism development. Currently, the whole province has about 35,000 workers in the tourism sector, of which 14,500 are direct workers. The quality of Lao Cai tourism human resources is still limited: only 23.7% have primary - secondary education; 21.2% have college - university degrees; the rest are unskilled workers. Notably, there are no workers with post-graduate training in this field.

Dr. Vu An Dan - Director of the Center for Tourism Consulting and Development - Hanoi Open University deployed the training content.

The training course is designed with 4 key contents, closely following the practical needs of tourist accommodation establishments: Providing basic knowledge on management and operation of accommodation establishments, helping trainees systematize processes, organizational models and core management principles; Guiding effective management methods for three key departments (Reception - Housekeeping - Food and Beverage), departments that directly affect service quality and guest satisfaction; Updating skills in building selling prices, managing revenue and optimizing revenue in the context of increasingly fierce competition and the growing trend of booking services online; Improving service quality management skills, from service standards, monitoring processes to continuous improvement methods to enhance the guest experience.

During the course, lecturers and students discussed and analyzed many practical situations, shared difficulties and problems in the process of operating accommodation facilities, thereby helping students accumulate more experience to apply in practice. The training course contributed to improving the quality of tourist services, building the image of Lao Cai tourism to be more professional, civilized and friendly.
