Releasing more than 120,000 fish fry to restore aquatic resources of Thac Ba Lake

On November 24, at Thac Ba Lake (Yen Binh Commune, Lao Cai Province), the Department of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with relevant units to release fish fry to regenerate and develop aquatic resources, contributing to protecting the ecological environment and livelihoods of people around the lake.

Attending the program were leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, representatives of the Department of Finance, Traffic Police Department (Provincial Police), and People's Committee of Yen Binh commune.

Fish release activities are implemented according to Plan 75/KH-SNNMT dated November 18, 2025, under the Program for protection and development of aquatic resources, fish release to supplement aquatic resources in Lao Cai province in 2025.

During this period, 120,500 fish fry that met technical standards were released into the lake, including 6,500 silver carp, 35,000 grass carp, 45,000 common carp and 34,000 black carp.

The released fish are 12 cm or larger in size, healthy, with bright colors, contributing to the restoration and increase of natural fish population density.

Professional staff check the lake water quality to ensure optimal living conditions for newly released fish.

The fish are checked for health and size before being released into Thac Ba Lake, to optimize their survival and growth.

Fish release activities not only contribute to the regeneration of aquatic resources, but also raise public awareness of ecological environment protection, limit overexploitation and prevent the spread of invasive alien species.

Thac Ba Lake was formed when Thac Ba Hydroelectric Plant was built in 1970, with a water surface area of ​​over 19,000 hectares, capacity from 3 - 3.9 billion m³. With abundant water resources from the mountain forest system and steep riverbed. This is a favorable condition for aquatic life to develop.

Currently, there are many businesses, cooperatives and households raising aquatic products in cages on the lake. Although it brings economic efficiency, exploitation activities still put certain pressure on natural resources.

Regularly maintaining fish release activities and regenerating aquatic resources at Thac Ba Lake is expected to create positive spillover effects, contributing to the protection of biodiversity, towards the goal of sustainable economic, environmental and social development of the province.
