One of the highlights in the efforts to promote gender equality in Lao Cai is the drastic participation of Party committees and authorities at all levels. Ensuring the proportion of women in Party committees, People's Councils and leadership apparatus has always been a concern of the province in accordance with the direction of the Central Government. Many programs, projects and plans for training and fostering female cadres have been systematically implemented, helping female cadres improve their management and professional capacity, and at the same time have the opportunity to participate in important positions.
In recent times, the province’s attention to gender equality has contributed to raising the status of women in leadership and management, while creating a foundation for building happy families. This change is not only in the indicators but also reflected in the evaluation and recognition of women by society.
This is clearly shown through the numbers, specifically in the 2025 - 2030 term, the proportion of women in the Provincial Party Executive Committee reached 17%, the proportion of female delegates in the Provincial People's Council reached 35%. Notably, up to 50% of the province's National Assembly delegates are women. This is a testament to the great effort in encouraging women to participate in leadership and policy making.

Along with changes in the political system, Lao Cai women are increasingly asserting their role in economic development. The province has implemented many vocational training programs, supporting women to start businesses, access preferential credit and participate in production according to the value chain. Thanks to that, the rate of female workers receiving vocational training annually reaches over 65%, and 43% of women after training have stable jobs.

Ms. Giang Thi Gu - owner of Do Gu Homestay in Pung Luong commune shared: "To have a community tourism model like today, I have attended vocational classes on tourism management, room service, and cooking. From the knowledge I have learned, I run my homestay well with an income of over 300 million VND/year. Mong women now also know how to do business, many of them work in tourism, participate in cooperatives... so they also have an economy that does not depend on their husbands".
In addition, many cooperative models led by women have been effective, especially in clean agricultural production, medicinal processing, community tourism, etc. These models not only help women escape poverty but also create more jobs for many female workers in the locality.

While in the past, gender equality was often considered a woman’s job, now men have actively participated, accompanied and shared with their wives in household chores. This change comes from many effective models such as “Happy Family” and “Trusted Address in the Community” clubs, which are regularly organized at the grassroots level.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh in Van Phu ward said: “Participating in clubs has helped my family and many other families change old concepts, build a lifestyle of equality and respect. Men and women have the same rights and responsibilities. Only when we share together will the family be truly happy.”

Giang A Mua in Thao Chua Chai village, Mu Cang Chai commune, also frankly admitted that he had not previously paid attention to or shared housework, considering housework to be women's work. After being educated by the Women's Union and village officials, he has completely changed.
“When I get home from work, I cook, take care of the children, and help my wife. That not only helps my wife to have less trouble, but also makes the family happier,” Giang A Mua shared.

With its core role, the Lao Cai Provincial Women's Union has organized many emulation movements and campaigns associated with building happy families, economic development and preventing gender violence. During the 2020-2025 term, the union chaired Project 8 under the National Target Program for Ethnic Minority Development, contributing to significantly reducing gender inequality.
The Association has implemented synchronously from the province to the grassroots, focusing on changing gender stereotypes, enhancing women's capacity and creating conditions for women to participate in social activities. This is an important foundation to promote gender equality in a sustainable manner.

Looking back at the results achieved, it can be seen that gender equality work in Lao Cai has gone into depth, bringing positive changes to the community. The efforts of the political system and the participation of the people have contributed to building a safe and equal living environment, creating a driving force to promote the socio-economic development of the province.
