Due to the impact of floods in the South Central region (Dieu Tri-Nha Trang section), the Railway Transport Joint Stock Company had to stop running a number of passenger and freight trains from November 17.
As of 4 p.m. today (November 24), the Railway industry has announced the suspension of 65 passenger trains; organized the transportation of 976 passengers by road from Tuy Hoa station to Gia station and vice versa.
In addition, the number of tickets returned from November 17 to 25 of affected trains was more than 25,200 tickets that were returned to passengers, approximately 17.6 billion VND.
During the time the trains had to stop at stations, the Railway sector served 10,545 main meals and 6,702 side meals with a total amount of nearly 623 million VND.
For freight trains that are having to stop along the way and wait for plans at departure stations, some customers transporting consumer goods and food have canceled their orders for rail transport, and the trucks on the train are scheduled to be unloaded and transported by road to meet the schedule, resulting in many costs (34 trains with a total cost of 9.52 billion VND).
The affected freight trains include: 41 freight trains waiting, including 8 at Song Than station; 7 at Giap Bat station; 26 trains along the route (12 even-numbered trains, 14 odd-numbered trains); 2 transferred trains in total; 34 cancelled trains.
According to the report of Vietnam Railway Corporation (VNR), the total number of landslides and roadbed erosion points is 61, of which 46 points have been cleared to return to speed.
There are 15 remaining points being repaired in the Dong Tac - Phu Hiep and Phu Hiep - Hao Son sections due to the impact of hydropower discharge from the Ba Ha River. There is a 2km long section (from Km1205-Km1207) with the roadbed washed away. The section from Km1211-Km1215 has the roadbed washed away and is 4m off-center.
“The construction conditions are difficult, with only one entrance being the railway. The water has receded in some areas, and the unit is actively working to restore the track as soon as possible. At the few slow-running points, the unit is trying its best to restore the speed of the section as soon as possible,” said the VNR leader.
