Vietnamese swimming and athletics reap a bumper harvest of gold medals

June 7 was the most successful day for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation since the opening of the 12th ASEAN Para Games when our athletes won 23 more gold medals, 13 silver medals, 18 bronze medals, and with a total of 60 gold medals, they soon fulfilled the target.

Vietnamese swimming continued to show its superiority to win 11 more gold medals. Female athlete Trinh Bich Nhu excellently won 3 individual gold medals in the following events: 100m breaststroke SB4, 50m butterfly S6, 50m freestyle S6 for women. Le Tien Dat competed outstandingly, winning 2 individual gold medals in the men's 100m breaststroke SB5, men's 50m freestyle S6 and together with teammates Thanh Tung, Danh Hoa, Thanh Hai won the gold medal in the men's 4x50m medley.

Athlete Danh Hoa also won an individual gold medal in the men's 50m freestyle category S4. Female athlete Vi Thi Hang won 2 individual gold medals in the women's 50m freestyle category S7 and 100m breaststroke category SB6. Pham Thanh Dat won an individual gold medal in the men's 50m butterfly category S8. Nguyen Thi Sari won an individual gold medal in the women's 100m breaststroke category SB4.

On the track and field, Vietnamese athletes excelled in winning 10 more gold medals. In one day of competition, athlete Vo Van Tung won 2 gold medals in two different events: men's discus throw F34 and men's javelin throw F34-F54.

In the discus throw, Van Tung achieved a score of 24.85m, 5.23m more than the Brunei athlete who won the silver medal; his javelin throw score was 21.33m, 2.3m more than the Philippine athlete who won the silver medal. Javelin throw is considered the forte of Vietnamese athletes, Kieu Minh Trung won the gold medal in the men's F55 category, Cao Ngoc Hung won the gold medal in the men's F57 category, and Truong Bich Van won the gold medal in the women's F56 category.

Discus throw is also a strong event for Vietnam when Trinh Cong Luan won the gold medal in men's discus throw class F56 with a score of 28.3m along with 2 gold medals from Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thuy (women's F54 class) and Nguyen Thi Hai (women's F57 class).

Athlete Dinh Thao Nguyen won another gold medal in the women's long jump T12 category. Thus, at the end of the athletics event at the 12th Para Games, Vietnamese athletes won a total of 20 gold medals, 19 silver medals and 20 bronze medals, 5 more gold medals than the previous Games.

The Vietnamese female players competing in the standard chess event won both gold medals. Tran Ngoc Loan won the individual gold medal in the V1-B1 category with 5.5 points. In the same category, the team event, Pham Thi Huong also won 5.5 points to win the individual silver medal (less than Loan in the secondary index) and Dao Thi Le Xuan (3 points) to join Tran Ngoc Loan in winning the gold medal with 14 points, 4 points more than the Indonesian team that won the silver medal.
