Bai Chay Hospital ( Quang Ninh province) said it had just admitted 4 students (born in 2008) with symptoms of poisoning after using electronic cigarettes .
According to the patients, an hour before entering the hospital, these male students used electronic cigarettes (unknown type and origin). Afterwards, all of them felt dizzy, had general discomfort, felt weak, had trembling hands and feet, had chest tightness, had difficulty breathing, felt nauseous and vomited a lot.

Upon admission to the hospital, the patient was given emergency treatment by doctors, treated with intravenous fluids according to the protocol, and continued to be monitored and treated at the Department of Dialysis Kidney (Bai Chay Hospital).
Dr. Tran Thi Hong Ngan, Department of Nephrology and Dialysis, Bai Chay Hospital, said that electronic cigarettes are nicotine-providing products, consisting of a battery, charger, heating element, air flow conduction element; and a part containing a solution tube. This solution usually contains nicotine, flavoring agents, propylene glycol, and vegetable glycerin. Nicotine is highly addictive, increasing the risk of using alcohol, drugs, and other addictive substances.
In particular, nicotine can affect brain development in adolescents and can even cause fetal damage (leading to low birth weight and increased risk of premature birth). New generation cigarette smoke contains carcinogens, increasing the risk of lung cancer, laryngeal cancer, stroke, cerebral hemorrhage, stomach cancer, etc.
Patients are monitored at the hospital.
To identify children using e-cigarettes, Dr. Ngan pointed out signs such as children coughing, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing; or children often showing signs of anxiety, irritability, and even a tendency to participate in risky behaviors.
In addition, parents should note that seeing strange objects in the form of tubes, USBs, or smelling unusual scents in the house or child's room may be signs that the child is using e-cigarettes.
Recently, in Hanoi , a student had to go to the emergency room after smoking an electronic cigarette. In addition, three other students were also hospitalized because their friend put two drops of essential oil from an electronic cigarette into a bottle of soft drink.
According to the results of the study on tobacco use among students aged 13-15 by the Ministry of Health in 2022, the current rate of tobacco use among students aged 13-15 is about 2.9%. However, the rate of female students using tobacco shows signs of increasing, mainly using new tobacco products such as electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco.
Electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco products contain nicotine, with about 15,500 flavors used, many of which are toxic, harmful to health, can cause explosions, and can be mixed with other substances such as drugs and marijuana.
