The incident happened in the match between Phalangkan Club and Mahasarakham Club (Phalangkan won 4-1), in the second leg of the Thai-League 2 play-off, competing for a promotion ticket to Thai-League 1, the referee became a controversial topic.
In particular, there was a situation where Phalangkan's attacking player hugged a defender from Mahasarakham Club, making it impossible for Mahasarakham to prevent Phalangkan's goal.

Madam Pang announced to investigate the referee scandal that has just appeared in Thai football (Photo: Thairath).
The referee checked VAR to review the situation, but in the end, he still ruled against Mahasarakham FC, recognizing Phalangkan FC's goal. The referee's decision became the subject of ridicule on social media in Thailand.
Faced with the incident, FAT President Nualphan Lamsam (commonly known as Madam Pang) ordered the director of the Thai-League, the governing body of Thai football referees, to re-examine the refereeing in the above match. If there were any mistakes, the responsible parties must handle them thoroughly.
According to Madam Pang, the Thai League and the Thai football refereeing authority must carefully evaluate this situation, as well as consider the referee team's performance throughout the match. From there, the parties must have a fair and objective assessment of the controversial issue.
Promotion and relegation are related to the financial matters of the clubs. Teams that are promoted to compete in Thai-League 1 will receive financial support and have the ability to earn much more money than those that have to stay in Thai-League 2. Therefore, the referees' decisions greatly affect the fate of the teams.
Recently, Thai football has been plagued by many scandals. Madam Pang herself wants to change the image of her country's football and erase the remaining scandals.
