Ca Mau removes obstacles, speeds up progress of LNG power project

Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Ho Hai spoke at the meeting.

The LNG power project (project) was granted an investment registration certificate by the Provincial People's Committee in January 2020, invested by Delta Offshore Energy (DOE), with a designed capacity of 3,200 MW and a total investment of about 4 billion USD. This is the largest foreign direct investment (FDI) project in the Mekong Delta region, expected to contribute significantly to the budget and create jobs for thousands of local workers.

However, after 5 years of licensing, the project has not yet been implemented. According to the investor, the main reason for the delay is due to a number of objective factors. Currently, the legal procedures in the investment preparation phase are almost completed. The investor requested the leaders of Ca Mau province to support in handling issues under their authority that are still pending in the locality; coordinate with central agencies on related issues; allow the measurement of the new boundary of the factory and access to the site for geotechnical survey.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Huynh Chi Nguyen requested the investor to promptly complete the remaining documents and legal procedures. At the same time, he affirmed that the Provincial People's Committee and departments and branches will always accompany and create favorable conditions within their authority for the investor to implement; the province will actively coordinate with the investor to work with the central ministries and branches to remove obstacles beyond the local authority; at the same time, a specialized working group will be established to closely monitor the progress, urge the implementation, promptly handle arising difficulties, with the goal of soon putting the project into practice, ensuring progress as committed, promoting efficiency, contributing to the overall growth of the province.

Speaking at the meeting, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Ho Hai emphasized: Ca Mau is a province with many difficulties, infrastructure is not yet developed synchronously compared to many other localities. The fact that investors choose Ca Mau to implement a national-scale project is an important opportunity to promote socio -economic development, especially in the energy sector, one of the pillars of the province's development, especially clean energy. The province has the advantage of a long coastline, favorable for large-scale energy projects.

Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Ho Hai affirmed: The province is very interested and committed to creating the most favorable conditions for investors. The difficulties of enterprises are also the difficulties of the locality, the province will proactively coordinate with central ministries and branches to resolve them.

The Provincial Party Secretary requested the Provincial People's Committee to study, establish a working group and closely coordinate with enterprises, regularly monitor, urge progress and promptly handle difficulties. Departments, branches and sectors should uphold their spirit and responsibility, and provide maximum support to enterprises within their authority.

Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Ho Hai hopes that businesses will share difficulties with the locality, join hands and unite so that the project will soon be completed, put into operation and make practical contributions to the growth of the province. The province is always receptive, ready to receive information from investors to inspect, monitor, remind and promptly remove difficulties and obstacles.
