Supermarkets boost sales through e-commerce platforms

Việt NamViệt Nam02/10/2024

Online shopping is no longer strange to many people. However, most consumers only shop online for fashion , household goods, electronics, etc., but do not have the habit of ordering online for food, vegetables, fruits, and tubers. Therefore, supermarkets and shopping centers are promoting and increasing sales through e-commerce platforms, especially for food, vegetables, tubers, fruits, and essential goods.

Although it has not been in operation for long, GO! Ha Nam supermarket (Lam Ha ward, Phu Ly city) has attracted the attention of many customers for its online shopping channel. To help many people know and use this shopping channel, the supermarket has arranged a team of staff to serve directly at locations with many customers visiting and shopping in the supermarket to distribute leaflets, instruct customers on how to install and use the online shopping application "GO! & Big C"; how to order via the zalo channel "GO! & Big C Supermarket"; order via the supermarket's hotline number 1900 1880. At the same time, promote GO!'s online shopping channels on social networking sites such as Facebook, Zalo, etc.

To stimulate consumption through online shopping channels, in addition to general discount and promotion programs for products available at the supermarket, GO! also applies many attractive incentive programs exclusively for customers ordering online with deep discounts of up to 40%; giving discount codes from 10-30,000 VND for online orders for some product groups... When shopping through GO!'s online channels, customers can also choose a certain delivery time frame and receive free delivery for orders worth from 300,000 VND, within a distance of 7km. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hang, Director of GO! Ha Nam supermarket, said: GO! Ha Nam is currently providing about 28,000 products in a variety of industries, from fresh, frozen, dried goods to essential necessities. All items are available and are continuously supplemented daily to meet customer needs. To provide the best service quality for online customers, GO! Ha Nam arranges enough staff in charge of delivery, ensuring delivery time according to the requirements of the "gods".

GO! Ha Nam supermarket staff instruct customers on how to install and use the “GO! & Big C” application.

According to the survey, many consumers in Phu Ly city have switched from shopping for food, vegetables, and fruits directly at traditional markets, traditional markets, and stores to shopping online through GO! supermarket's ordering applications. Among them, office workers and business people are often busy. Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh, Chau Son ward (Phu Ly city) said: I have 2 young children who have to go to school, plus my family's business is very busy. Since choosing to shop online at GO! Ha Nam, I don't have to wait in line to pay and then transport the goods to the parking area, but the supermarket staff has delivered the goods to my home, saving a lot of time. Moreover, I find ordering online much easier than buying directly because 100% of the supermarket's products are posted on the application and have their prices and promotions publicly listed, so I can easily compare prices with other stores.

Similar to GO! supermarket, currently, Winmart+ supermarket customers can also order online flexibly through channels such as by phone, via the application and via the supermarket's website. In addition, Winmart+ customers in Ha Nam are also having an extremely convenient shopping experience with the customer zalo group application of each store. At each Winmart+ point of sale, customers can easily join the customer zalo group by scanning the QR code. All new products and weekly promotions are fully posted by the store in the zalo group for customers to easily follow and place orders. Each store will have staff specializing in receiving orders and delivering to customers. Mr. Cao Minh Duong, manager of the Winmart+ supermarket system in Ha Nam, said: About 4 years ago, when the Covid-19 epidemic broke out, the online sales model was applied and expanded by the supermarket, thereby meeting the shopping needs of people relatively well. Since then, sales based on online platforms have been maintained and developed by Winmart+ stores, increasingly gaining the trust of consumers. With many conveniences, Winmart+ expects that online shopping will soon "surpass" traditional channels and become the first choice of customers when buying food and necessities.

With the strong development of digital technology, not only large supermarkets such as GO!, Winmart+ but also most large-scale supermarkets and convenience stores have converted their sales methods through websites, Facebook, Zalo, hotlines or e-commerce platforms. According to supermarkets, the proportion of consumers shopping through online ordering based on online platforms is increasing. Therefore, the team receiving information, picking up goods, transporting and delivering online orders has also been strengthened to meet customer needs. According to Mr. Le Minh Ngoc, Head of Trade Management Department (Department of Industry and Trade), the promotion of online sales by supermarkets has contributed to improving the e-commerce index, promoting the development of the digital economy in the province. In 2023, the province's e-commerce index ranked 24th out of 56 provinces and cities with e-commerce applications nationwide. To date, over 40% of internet users in the province have participated in online shopping. Currently, the Department of Industry and Trade continues to encourage supermarkets, shopping malls, stores, production and business establishments to promote sales through online platforms; promote and encourage customers to limit the use of cash for payment, increase the use of e-wallets, scan QR codes... when shopping.

In preparation for the year-end shopping season and the Lunar New Year 2025, along with fully preparing and diversifying sources of reserve goods, supermarkets and shopping centers also have plans to promote sales via e-commerce to reach many customer segments. To increase competitiveness, supermarkets are focusing on many solutions to improve and enhance the quality of online sales services. In addition to on-time delivery and ensuring product quality, supermarkets also focus on solutions related to marketing strategies such as promotional gifts, free shipping, etc. Thereby, retail businesses expect to increase their competitiveness in the context of the current gloomy purchasing power in the market.
