Candidates for the 2023 Drama, Film and Television Actors major at the University of Theater and Cinema
Exciting atmosphere on admission day
According to the Admissions Council of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Cinema, the total number of candidates registering to take the entrance exam to the school in 2023 is 755, mostly concentrated in the Drama and Film - Television Acting majors, with 560 candidates. Meanwhile, the enrollment quota for this major is 38, showing a "competition" ratio of approximately 1:15. Similarly, the remaining majors also have a relatively high competition ratio. The Cinematography major recruits 15 candidates (the number of candidates taking the exam is 55); the Stage Directing major recruits 12 (the number of candidates taking the exam is 41); the Film - Television Directing major recruits 30 (the number of candidates taking the exam is nearly 100).
It is known that the Drama, Film and Television Acting major is also the only major that organizes a preliminary exam (taking place on July 2-3). After the preliminary round with 560 candidates, the Admissions Council selected 128 candidates to enter the final round to select 38 successful candidates.
The final aptitude test for the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Cinema took place over three days, July 4-6, in which on July 4, candidates took the test of analyzing works of art. Candidates majoring in Drama, Cinema and Television who took the preliminary test did not have to take this subject; in the final round, candidates performed a stage sketch according to the exam questions, expressed situations as required by the Board of Examiners and answered questions. The aptitude test for the remaining majors, depending on the characteristics of each major, will have different contents: The Film and Television Directing major watches and edits festival photos according to the theme provided by the Board of Examiners, and answers related questions; The Stage Directing major, candidates present a sketch according to the theme, situation, and props specified by the Board of Examiners and answer questions related to the field of theater; The Filming major, candidates take photos, then take an oral exam on knowledge of visual arts and analysis of the photos taken.
The new point of this year's exam is that the photography activity of the Filming Department is staged right on campus, which creates a lively atmosphere on the admissions day, while helping the supervisors and the Admissions Council to provide timely support and better management of candidates. In addition, organizing outdoor activities at the school also saves costs and creates safety for candidates.
Expanding direct admission to gifted students
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi My Linh, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Sports and Physical Education, said that the first round of the aptitude test had 1,130 candidates registered to take the test. The Admissions Council arranged 13 test sites for the following subjects: Athletics; General aptitude; Swimming aptitude; Tennis; Chess aptitude; Gymnastics; Badminton; Table tennis; Volleyball; Basketball; Soccer; Shooting and Handball. This year, the school's enrollment remained stable with 500 targets for 4 training majors.
According to Dr. Nguyen My Hanh, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, this year, the Conservatory of Music recruits 410 students for the University level (4-year and 2-year programs) and the Intermediate level (4, 6, 7, 9 years). The total number of students registered for both programs is about 800. The Conservatory of Music conducts direct admission (4-year university program) in cases where students have won national or international professional awards from third prize or higher (solo singing, solo performance) in the same major as the competition, within 4 years from the time of application submission; graduated from the intermediate level at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, with a professional graduation exam score of 9.0 or higher, a graduation rating of excellent or higher (8.0), a full-time training process of good (8.0) or higher, and take the university entrance exam in the same major as the student has graduated. “The school is organizing the 2023 Ho Chi Minh City Piano Competition, taking place from July 6 to 9. Non-professional students who win first, second, and third prizes in the categories and are of age to take the entrance exam to the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music will be admitted directly to the regular Piano program without having to take the entrance exam,” Dr. Hanh added.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Minh, Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts, said that this year the school will enroll 239 full-time university students for 6 majors: Painting; Graphics; Sculpture; Theory, History and Criticism of Fine Arts; Graphic Design and Fine Arts Pedagogy, and reserve 20 university transfer students for graduates from Dong Nai College of Decorative Arts. All majors will enroll students by combining the admission of Literature and the entrance exam of 2 aptitude subjects on July 6 and 8.
Dr. Truong Duc Cuong, Principal of Dong Nai College of Decorative Arts, informed that in 2023, the school will enroll nearly 145 college-level students for 6 majors: Graphic Design; Interior Design; Fashion Design; Multimedia Communications; Sculpture and Ceramics. The school accepts applications 7 times a year, from now until October.
In 2023, Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture will enroll 910 students for 8 training majors: Information - Library; Museum Studies; Tourism; Tourism and Travel Services Management; Publishing Business; Cultural Management; Cultural Studies and Vietnam Ethnic Minority Culture. Accordingly, the school enrolls students based on the admission method (subject combinations suitable for the major) and admission combined with artistic aptitude test - applied to the major of Organizing and staging cultural and artistic programs under the Cultural Management major. The school reserves 3% of the enrollment quota for direct admission and organizes an artistic aptitude test on July 13-14.
Ho Chi Minh City Dance College enrolls 150 students, including 80 full-time students and 70 part-time students. The Dance School organizes entrance exams in two rounds, round 1 from August 1 to 4 for all majors; round 2 on October 2, 2023, for part-time students.
