Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, said that this year, the entrance exam for grade 10 of public high schools will take place with 3 subjects on June 10 and 11, one week earlier than last year. This year's exam scores will be announced before July 10. From July 10 to 12, candidates will complete admission procedures directly and online.
The two Math and Literature exams are in essay format, with a duration of 120 minutes for each subject. For the Foreign Language subject, candidates take a 60-minute multiple-choice test, choosing one of the following languages: English, French, German, Japanese, Korean. This year's admission scores remain stable as in previous years: Grade 10 admission score = (Math score + Literature score) x 2 + Foreign Language score + Priority score.

Regarding the exam questions, the Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that this year's 10th grade exam questions are mainly based on the 9th grade curriculum, with questions following the standard knowledge and skills requirements of the current secondary school curriculum of the Ministry of Education and Training .
The Math and Literature exams ensure 4 cognitive levels: Recognition, comprehension, application and high-level application. The Foreign Language exam is mainly at the recognition and comprehension levels and has some questions at the application level.
The city is still divided into 12 enrollment areas. In particular, the Department stipulates that each student can register up to three wishes for three public high schools, ranked in order of priority. Of which, wishes one and two must be in the enrollment area according to regulations, wish three is not required. Students are not allowed to change their wishes after registration.
Students who are admitted to their first choice will not be considered for the following choices. If they fail their first choice, they will be considered for their second and third choices - the admission score must be 1-2 points higher than the school's standard score.
High schools must enroll students by region, except for Chu Van An High School and Son Tay High School, which enroll non-specialized students from across the city.
Candidates can register for up to two specialized schools (can be in the same specialized subject) or two specialized classes in the same school, as long as the specialized exam schedule does not overlap. Admission score for specialized grade 10 = Total score of non-specialized exams + Specialized subject exam score x 2.
According to statistics from the Department of Education and Training, the number of 9th grade students in the 2022-2023 school year is 129,210. About 72,000 candidates are admitted to public high schools (55.7%) - 1,000 more than last year, the remaining 30,000 students are admitted to autonomous public or private schools (23.2%), the rest are admitted to vocationaleducation - continuing education centers.
The representative of the Department of Education and Training also said that the allocation of grade 10 enrollment quotas for each type of school in the 2023-2024 school year remains basically stable as in the previous school year. It is expected that in April 2023, the Department will announce the grade 10 enrollment quotas for each school.
