The project “Improving the living conditions of ethnic minorities” phase I, sponsored by Bread for the World (Federal Republic of Germany) and implemented by the Center for Research on Community Development Initiatives in 16 villages of 4 communes: Chieng Xuan, Chieng Yen, Song Khua and Suoi Bang (now Van Ho, To Mua, Chieng Son, Song Khua communes).
After more than 3 years of implementation, RIC Center organized 32 training courses to improve capacity for 320 community group members and households in the project on planning, techniques for afforestation combined with planting short-term trees, medicinal plants; techniques for cultivating environmentally friendly agricultural crops and connecting to the market. Implemented 102 projects, models for livelihood development, maintenance, construction of production water and domestic water works for people with a total cost of 12.8 billion VND... The combination of developing sustainable livelihood models and building, operating and maintaining domestic water works, contributed to improving the lives of people in particularly difficult areas, enhancing the capacity and sense of responsibility of the community.
The effectiveness of the project and the support of local people are a solid foundation for phase II of the project "Improving living conditions of ethnic minorities" to continue to be implemented from July 2025 to August 2028 in the three communes of Van Ho, To Mua, and Song Khua, with the goal of improving living conditions and increasing income of poor households in the project implementation villages.
