( Bqp.vn ) – On June 20, the 47th anniversary of “The Road to Overthrowing the Pol Pot Genocide Regime” was held in Memot district, Tbong Khmum province, Cambodia, chaired by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.
Attending the ceremony were leaders of the National Assembly, Senate, Government, Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia, generals and officers of the Royal Cambodian Army; Military Attaches of countries in Cambodia.

On the Vietnamese side, there was a delegation from the Ministry of National Defense led by Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defense, attending the ceremony. The delegation included Lieutenant General Nguyen Doan Anh, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army; Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, member of the Party Central Committee, Commander of Military Region 7; Lieutenant General Le Duc Thai, member of the Party Central Committee, Commander of the Border Guard.
The delegation of the Ministry of Public Security was led by Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long, Deputy Minister of Public Security. The delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet. Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang and leaders of the People's Committee of Binh Phuoc province also attended the event.

47 years ago, on June 20, 1977, Lieutenant Colonel Hun Sen, Regiment Commander of Zone 21, Eastern Zone of Cambodia, now Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party, President of the Supreme Advisory Council of the King of Cambodia, President of the Cambodian Senate, and his comrades crossed the Cambodia-Vietnam border to seek Vietnam's help to overthrow the Pol Pot genocidal regime, bringing peace to the land of pagodas. At that time, Samdech Techo Hun Sen always believed that Vietnam would not stand idly by when Cambodia was in trouble because Vietnam was a neighboring country that had shared the good and the bad, stood shoulder to shoulder with Cambodia in the struggle against the common enemy for independence. Although at that time, Vietnam was still in a difficult situation because it had just emerged from the war, in response to the trust and aspirations of the people and true revolutionaries of the brotherly country of Cambodia, the Party, State, Army and people of Vietnam demonstrated the spirit of solidarity, shared difficulties, did their best, wholeheartedly helped, trained the core cadres, and built forces for the Cambodian revolution. After crushing the war of invasion of the southwestern border of Vietnam by the reactionary Pol Pot group, in response to the urgent call of the Cambodian National United Front for National Salvation and based on the tradition of solidarity, attachment, and mutual assistance between the two nations, Vietnam sent volunteer troops to stand shoulder to shoulder, regardless of sacrifice, together with the revolutionary armed forces and the heroic Cambodian people to fight, liberating Cambodia from the disaster of genocide, leading to victory on January 7, 1979.
The 47th anniversary of the “Path to the overthrow of the Pol Pot genocide regime” not only reminds us to remember the historical milestone of the origin of the struggle for conscience, human dignity, and the just cause of overthrowing the brutal genocide regime, but also is a vivid demonstration of the friendship, solidarity, loyalty, and close bond between the two peoples of Vietnam and Cambodia that generations of the people of the two countries, present and future, always remember, continue, and develop to new heights. The participation of Vietnamese delegations in the celebration shows the importance of the relationship with Cambodia, contributing to strengthening political trust and solidarity between the two countries and the two armies.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized that the achievements that Cambodia has achieved today are closely linked to the journey to overthrow the Pol Pot genocide regime. The organization of the 47th anniversary of "The Road to Overthrowing the Pol Pot Genocide Regime" contributes to strengthening solidarity, good neighborly relations, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability between Cambodia and Vietnam. Prime Minister Hun Manet affirmed that Cambodia will forever be grateful for the participation of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts in helping Cambodia liberate the country from the genocide regime. On this occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet thanked the Government, Army and people of Vietnam for supporting Cambodia in building the Techo Koh Thmor X16 military historical site (Memot district, Tbong Khmum province).

At the ceremony, Prime Minister Hun Manet awarded medals and orders to collectives and individuals with achievements, including 17 Vietnamese individuals with achievements in collecting and repatriating 49 remains of soldiers of the Cambodian National Solidarity Armed Forces from Dong Nai province (Vietnam) to area X16 (Memot district, Tbong Khmum province).
After the celebration, Prime Minister Hun Manet and delegates attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the guest house and housing project in area X16 (Memot district, Tbong Khmum province).
