Thua Thien- Hue :

TPO - The strip of land along the world-famous Lang Co bay, Phu Loc district, Thua Thien-Hue province (TT-Hue) was once expected to attract many "million-dollar" tourism projects to create a boost for economic development and change the face of the locality. However, many large corporations and enterprises, after investing "half-heartedly", have quietly withdrawn, leaving behind in the "golden lands" shabby, deserted constructions full of regret.

Five years ago, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Lang Co Bay becoming a member of the 7 most beautiful bays in the world club , the Phu Loc district government chose the Six Miles Coast Resort (Minh Vien International Joint Stock Company) located on the coast as the venue for a festival to celebrate this event. Recently, when returning to Lang Co on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the beautiful bay, many people were surprised and regretful at the degradation and desolation of the Minh Vien Company's tourist area, which has now been abandoned.

At one time, when implementing the Six Miles Coast Resort tourist area project, this place was promoted as a "golden silk strip" bestowed by nature, with a "golden land" location stretching over 6 miles of beautiful coastline, convenient for traveling to other tourist destinations in the Central region.

Those who had high hopes for the "golden silk strip" Six Miles Coast Resort, now witnessing the desolation and immobility of the "million dollar" project next to the beautiful Lang Co bay, are even more disappointed.

According to the planning project, Six Miles Coast Resort is a world-class resort complex, implemented on a total area of 110 hectares, with a total investment of more than 2 billion USD (developed through 6 phases and diverse types). Of which, phase 1 was implemented more than 5 years ago, including 242 coastal resort villas, on an area of about 19 hectares, with an investment capital of up to 368 million USD.

The first phase of the project was granted an investment certificate by TT-Hue province for the first time in 2015, and the second adjustment was made in 2018. After a short period of implementation of some unfinished resort villa complexes, the construction works of the first phase of the Six Miles Coast Resort project suddenly stopped.

Most of the constructions here cannot be put into operation due to incomplete infrastructure, and are currently abandoned, becoming haunted "haunted houses" on the beautiful world-famous bay of Lang Co.

A few kilometers from the Six Miles Coast Resort in the direction from Lang Co to Chan May seaport, there is a high-end resort and villa complex that has been under construction since 2016 and then abandoned in the wind and rain. The scenery here is equally haunting. It is the Movenpick Resort Lang Co (another name is Mediterranean Legend) of Vicoland Construction and Housing Development Corporation.

This is a project that has undergone 4 times of investment certificate adjustment, with a total registered capital of 838.5 billion VND, land use area of about 6.9 hectares. The project's goal is to focus on building and operating a tourist area that meets international standards, including villas, restaurants, retail stores, swimming pools, spas, tennis courts, entertainment areas and other suitable related facilities.

Although the project has basically completed the rough construction, some coastal villas have been completed, the construction volume has reached more than 80%. However, since the beginning of 2020 until now, the project has stopped implementation and fallen into disrepair.

According to the explanation from the Management Board of the Economic - Industrial Zone of Thua Thien Hue province, the investors of the above-mentioned high-end tourism and resort projects are facing difficulties in capital sources due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and issues related to the world economy, so the implementation cannot ensure the committed progress.

The Board has organized many working sessions and sent documents requesting investors to speed up progress. However, up to now, the projects are still in a state of abandonment and deadlock, with no signs of restarting to complete and put into operation, contributing to promoting local socio-economic development as expected.
