Hanoi The cold weather and changes in living habits near Tet have caused many people to have heart attacks and cerebral infarctions and have to be hospitalized.
From the night of February 6 to the early morning of February 7, the 28th of the Lunar New Year, the intervention room of the Department of Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Intervention, 108 Central Military Hospital, had surgical lights shining all night. Doctors continuously treated and saved the lives of 5 patients with myocardial infarction and cerebral infarction.
The two myocardial infarction patients, both men, 67 and 53 years old, both from Bac Ninh , were transferred from the lower level in a state of severe chest pain, low blood pressure, and critical condition. Emergency doctors performed percutaneous coronary angiography and placed a stent to re-open the coronary artery - the culprit causing the myocardial infarction. Immediately after the intervention, both patients' hemodynamics were stable, chest pain was gone, and symptoms improved.
When these two patients were stable, the doctors of the Department of Diagnosis and Vascular Intervention continuously received 3 cases of cerebral infarction. Doctors worked overnight to provide emergency care and treat patients with complex injuries. A typical example is a 70-year-old male patient from Thanh Hoa , admitted to the hospital at the 7th hour of onset of the disease, with difficulty speaking, swallowing disorder, nausea and a rapid decline in consciousness.
The stroke team sounded the alarm and diagnosed the patient with acute cerebral infarction, vertebrobasilar artery occlusion, with a prognosis that would progress rapidly and be very severe. The patient underwent intervention to aspirate the entire posterior vertebrobasilar artery system and place a stent in the right vertebral artery. After the intervention, the patient continued to be monitored and treated at the Stroke Department.
Dr. Pham Cuong, Stroke Department, said that the recent erratic weather changes are a risk factor for an increase in the number of patients with stroke and myocardial infarction. Especially, near Tet, many people change their living habits, diet, sleep, do not follow proper medication... leading to an increased risk of hospitalization. The department is treating more than 20 stroke patients, many of whom will have to celebrate Tet in the hospital.

Dr. Pham Minh Tuan, Department of Vascular Diagnosis and Intervention, warned that stroke and myocardial infarction are extremely dangerous diseases that can affect the life and quality of life of patients. Prevention is still the top priority, controlling underlying diseases such as atrial fibrillation, high blood pressure, obesity, lipid disorders, etc. Patients need to go to the hospital immediately when they have unusual symptoms such as difficulty speaking, weakness, impaired consciousness, chest pain, etc. to be diagnosed and treated promptly, avoiding dangerous complications.
