Mikel Arteta has made Viktor Gyokeres his top target this summer, with talks between Arsenal and the Portuguese club being tense over add-ons.
According to the Mirror (UK), Sporting Lisbon is said to have "inserted" many significant additional clauses into the Viktor Gyokeres deal. Accordingly, the Portuguese team will receive an additional £2.2 million if the Swedish striker plays 20 matches for Arsenal next season and another £2.2 million if he reaches the milestone of 40 appearances.

The Portuguese club are also set to receive an additional £2.2m if Arsenal qualify for the Champions League, with a £2.2m add-on clause that will be triggered if Gyokeres plays at least 20 games in the 2026-27 season.
The terms show that Sporting are determined not to sell their star player for cheap. They have set up the terms to make it difficult for other clubs to own Gyokeres. The 27-year-old striker has threatened to go on strike if his transfer deal does not progress.
Arsenal and Viktor Gyokeres were confirmed to have agreed personal terms two weeks ago. The Swedish striker will earn £130,000 a week at the Emirates, more than double the £62,000 he currently earns at Sporting Lisbon. This is a major step in bringing the attacking star to the Gunners.
Gyokeres will officially sign a five-year contract at the Emirates Stadium. The arrival of the Swedish striker marks Arsenal's fifth major signing of the summer transfer window, following other notable deals such as Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard and Noni Madueke.
Despite having played in England, striker Viktor Gyokeres has yet to make his mark in the Premier League. He scored 43 goals in two impressive seasons in the Championship with Coventry City.
Despite being part of Brighton’s roster from 2018 to 2021, Gyokeres has yet to make a single appearance in the top flight of English football. That’s why the Swedish star has not hesitated to express his desire to return to prove his ability.

After joining Sporting Lisbon in 2023, Gyokeres exploded, scoring a total of 97 goals in 102 games in just two seasons in Portugal. Last season, the 27-year-old scored 54 goals in 52 games in all competitions, including a hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League.
That brilliant performance contributed greatly to helping Sporting Lisbon win the double of National Championship and Portuguese National Cup.
Arsenal's pursuit of Gyokeres shows their determination to strengthen the London team's squad after consecutive failures in the Premier League title race in the last three seasons.
