Similar culture, the foundation of connection
After the merger of commune-level administrative units, the larger areas and larger populations seemed to be a challenge, but in reality, the opposite was true: the similarities in ethnicity, language, and customs between villages and hamlets in the same commune created favorable conditions for effectively organizing community cultural activities.
Tuyen Quang province currently has 5,413/5,873 villages and residential groups invested in building cultural houses and sports areas, reaching a rate of 92.2%. This figure not only shows the attention of Party committees and authorities at all levels, but also shows the vision of a grassroots culture with depth and enduring vitality.

In Lung Cu commune, activities at cultural houses are maintained regularly. Ms. Vuong Thi Mai, an expert from the commune's Department of Culture, Sports and Information, said that the commune was established from the merger of 3 communes including Lung Cu, Lung Tao, Ma Le with more than 15,000 people, mainly Mong, Lo Lo, Giay. Currently, 31/37 villages have cultural houses, familiar and close living spaces for the people.
In Lo Lo Chai village, homestay services have developed, so cultural and artistic activities are held regularly about 5 times a week. In Ma Le village, where nearly 90% of the population are Giay people, the art troupe with 32 members often organizes performances and cultural exchanges on weekends. After the merger, Ma Le village has had 3 exchanges with Leng Sang, Ban Thung and Tac Tang villages.
Autonomy, self-management
The village cultural house has been maintained and promoted effectively thanks to the initiative of the people and grassroots cadres. Comrade Dang Thi Tuu, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Quyet Thang village, Son Duong commune, said: the village has 210 households and 832 people. Folk dance teams, volleyball, health care... maintain vibrant activities, becoming a familiar rhythm of life every afternoon.
In Tan Phuc village of the same commune, Village Chief Nguyen Phi Phuong recently mobilized people to contribute over 320 million VND to renovate the 1,000 m2 cultural house yard, install lighting, build 3 volleyball courts, and 1 badminton court. This is truly a true community living space, where nearly 1,400 people from 400 households can interact, meet, and share.
In urban areas, the enthusiasm of the residential group cadres further demonstrates the vitality of the cultural house. Comrade Nguyen Thi Huyen Van, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Tan Quang 16 Residential Group, Minh Xuan Ward, shared: When she took on the task of Party Cell Secretary, Head of the Residential Group, seeing that the cultural house was degraded and few people visited, she did not wait for investment from higher levels, but held a meeting with the people, mobilizing nearly 160 million VND from the community to renovate and purchase equipment. Now, the cultural house is a cultural meeting place, where music and folk dance steps resound every afternoon, where all ages find common joy.
It can be seen that the cultural house is not just an infrastructure project, but an institution that carries the soul of community life. There, indigenous cultural features are preserved, neighborhood relationships are nurtured, and self-management initiatives are nurtured from the hearts of the people.
