On May 31, the People's Committee of Can Tho City held a ceremony to commend and reward coaches and athletes of the city for their outstanding achievements at the 32nd SEA Games in 2023 held in Cambodia.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Truong Cong Quoc Viet, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, said that at the 32nd SEA Games, Can Tho had 4 coaches and 14 athletes called up to the national team to compete in the following sports: karaoke, vovinam, judo, women's basketball, women's beach volleyball, 2 events, and swimming. Can Tho athletes competed with determination, overcoming many strong opponents in the region to bring home 3 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 1 bronze medal. Thereby, contributing to helping the Vietnamese sports delegation have an extremely successful 32nd SEA Games with the overall ranking first.
Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, commended and rewarded athletes and coaches with high achievements at SEA Games 32.
Specifically, the 3 gold medals came from athletes Do Thanh Nhan and Vo Van Hien (men's team karate kumite); Duong Thanh Thanh (mixed and women's indoor judo); Lam Thi Thuy My, Le Toan Trung, Lam Chi Linh, and Doan Hoang Tham (women's multi-sport vovinam).
Silver medals went to athletes Bui Hung Cuong and Nguyen Van Tien (vovinam 3 men's dual training). The most surprising thing for Can Tho sports at the 32nd SEA Games was the precious bronze medal for women's beach volleyball in their first participation.
To commend the above achievements, Can Tho City People's Committee awarded the gold medalists over 63 million VND and the coaches over 41 million VND. The silver medalists were awarded over 38 million VND and the coaches over 26 million VND. The bronze medalists were awarded 25 million VND and the coaches were awarded 15 million VND. The total prize money for the athletes and coaches was nearly 800 million VND (including additional bonuses, spot bonuses and bonuses according to regulations).

On this occasion, Can Tho City leaders rewarded coach and athlete Ngo Son Dinh for winning 3 silver medals at the 2023 Asian Weightlifting Championship held in Korea recently.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, the achievements of Can Tho athletes at the 32nd SEA Games and the 2023 Asian Weightlifting Championship have brought glory to the city's sports industry. This is a great source of encouragement for the high-performance sports movement in particular; at the same time, it is the basis for the city to continue to focus on investing in sports in the continental and world competition system. Mr. Hien suggested that all levels and sectors need to give more support, care, and help to athletes and coaches. Especially focusing on the work of nurturing and training young athletes to succeed.
Sharing with the athletes, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Thuc Hien hopes that each person will continue to learn to improve, actively practice to improve professional skills, and practice more competitive spirit to aim for victory in higher arenas.
