On March 25, at the Southeast Economic Zone of Quang Tri province, the groundbreaking ceremony for the My Thuy Port project (Hai An commune, Hai Lang district, Quang Tri province) took place.

This project was approved by the Government in 2019, with a scale of 685 hectares, invested by My Thuy International Port Joint Stock Company (MTIP) with a total investment capital of VND 14,234 billion.

The project aims to serve industrial establishments in the Southeast Quang Tri Economic Zone, industrial parks in Quang Tri province, and attract transit goods for Laos and Northeast Thailand on the East-West Economic Corridor; ensuring the reception of ships with a capacity of up to 100,000 tons.

It is known that when formed, My Thuy port will be the nearest gateway to the East Sea on the East-West Economic Corridor, with a strategic position in freight transport; an important driving force to accelerate investment attraction in the Southeast Economic Zone, industrial parks in Quang Tri province and inter-regional provinces of Laos and Thailand.

According to the investment plan and phase, phase 1 from 2018-2025 will complete construction and put into operation 4 ports, with an area of 133.67 hectares, by 2031 7 ports will be put into operation and by 2036 10 ports.

At the construction launch ceremony, the investor made a commitment and determination to complete 2 to 4 berths for ships with a capacity of up to 100,000 tons by the end of 2025.

"Right after the groundbreaking ceremony, from tomorrow, we will concentrate all resources to implement the project" - the investor representative said.

Mr. Vo Van Hung - Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee - requested the investor to "start construction today" and must fulfill the commitment to complete and put the first item into use by the end of 2025.

On the local side, Mr. Vo Van Hung pledged to accompany the investor during the project implementation process.

It is known that in 2019, the above project had a groundbreaking ceremony. Quang Tri province has made efforts and accompanied the investor, but the project implementation has not been as expected. Therefore, Quang Tri province has repeatedly issued warnings, hoping that the investor will fulfill its commitment.
