Just entering the early stages of the hot season, in some provinces and cities in the Central region such as Da Nang , Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, there have been continuous drowning incidents that have left many people dead, missing or hospitalized. Typically, in Da Nang, on the afternoon of May 10, two children, D.XT and TQV (both born in 2011, both residing in Hoa Son commune, Hoa Vang district) invited each other to go swimming at Nam O beach, Lien Chieu district. While swimming, they were unfortunately swept away by the waves. Discovering the incident, people immediately shouted and coordinated to rescue the two victims, however, both did not survive.

Faced with the increasing trend of drowning accidents, localities are continuing to promote propaganda and raise people's awareness of drowning accidents and ways to prevent and combat them; especially implementing Decision No. 1717/QD-TTg dated December 31, 2024 of the Prime Minister on approving the program to enhance education on knowledge and skills to prevent and combat drowning for students in the period 2025-2035.
In Quang Nam province, the specific goal is to strengthen communication on drowning prevention for students by 2030, with 100% of managers, teachers, students, parents and related individuals being communicated to raise awareness, knowledge and responsibility for drowning prevention for students. Educating knowledge and skills on drowning prevention for students in schools, by 2030, striving to have 75% of students taught knowledge and practice skills on drowning prevention and reaching 90% by 2035. Strive by 2035, at least 70% of grade 5 students, 80% of grade 9 students and 90% of grade 12 students know how to swim safely...
At the same time, authorities recommend that people need to equip themselves with skills to ensure safety and handle situations when swimming, such as warming up thoroughly before getting into the water, how to handle cramps, encounter whirlpools, and first aid when encountering drowning people, etc.
