Flood warning on small rivers in the North

(PLVN) - According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from this evening, June 22, to June 23, on the upper reaches of Thao, Lo, Thuong and Luc Nam rivers, the lower reaches of Cau river, and small rivers in the Northern region, there is a possibility of a flood, with a flood amplitude of about 2-5m on the rivers.

The Hydrometeorological Agency forecasts that in the evening and night of June 22, the provinces of Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Vinh Phuc, Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, and Hanoi will have moderate rain, heavy rain, and thunderstorms, with some places having very heavy rain with common rainfall from 20-50mm, and some places having over 150mm. There is a risk of localized heavy rain (>100mm/3 hours).

On the night of June 22 and June 23, other places in the North and Thanh Hoa will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall of 10-25mm, locally over 50mm.

In the afternoon and evening of June 22, the Central Highlands and the South will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing heavy to very heavy rain with rainfall ranging from 10-30mm, and some places experiencing over 80mm.

From June 23, heavy rain in the Northern region tends to decrease. Thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

According to the Hydrometeorological Agency, the water level in the upper reaches of the Thuong and Luc Nam rivers is rising. At 1:00 p.m. on June 22, the water level of the Thuong River at Cau Son reached 15.38m, 0.38m above alert level 2. The water level in the lower reaches of the Cau, Thuong, and Luc Nam rivers is rising and is below alert level 1.

From this evening to June 23, in the upper reaches of Thao, Lo, Thuong and Luc Nam rivers, the lower reaches of Cau river, and small rivers in the Northern region, there is a possibility of a flood, with a flood amplitude of about 2-5m on the rivers. During this flood, the flood peak on small rivers is likely to reach level 2-3. The water level in the lower reaches of Thao, Lo, Thuong and Luc Nam rivers is below level 1; the lower reaches of Cau river at Dap Cau is likely to be at level 1-2.

High risk of flooding in low-lying areas along rivers, flash floods and landslides on steep slopes in mountainous areas of the North.

According to the report of the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, as of the morning of June 22, heavy rains had killed one person due to a landslide that entered their house. The victim was Ms. BTC, born in 1976, residing in Ba Be district, Bac Kan province; one person was injured in Thai Nguyen.

Regarding housing, 424 houses were flooded, 294 in Thai Nguyen, 44 in Bac Kan, 16 in Tuyen Quang, and 70 in Phu Tho; 258 houses were slightly damaged by small landslides, 192 in Bac Kan, 50 in Phu Tho, and 16 in Lao Cai.

Currently, the water in Bac Kan, Tuyen Quang, and Phu Tho provinces has receded. Thai Nguyen has evacuated 265 households (63 have returned home), while 202 households along the flooded Cau River still need to be evacuated.

Regarding agriculture, 359 hectares of rice and crops were flooded and damaged, specifically: in Bac Kan 258 hectares, Thai Nguyen 86 hectares, Ha Giang 12 hectares, Lao Cai 2.4 hectares; 23,681 livestock and poultry died, swept away in Thai Nguyen 23,300, Bac Kan 381.

Regarding Aquaculture, heavy rains affected 32 hectares in Bac Kan.

Regarding traffic, heavy rain caused landslides on some locations on National Highway 279 in Bac Kan and 53 locations on provincial roads with a volume of 6,612m3 . Currently, the landslide locations have been cleared.

In addition, heavy rains flooded 2 pumping stations in Thai Nguyen; damaged 1 small dam in Lao Cai; 3 electric poles were broken in Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan; 250m of fence collapsed in Bac Kan.
