Speaking at the opening of the conference, Colonel Lam Son Tung, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Vietnam Coast Guard, said: Every marine environmental incident, whether small or large, can directly impact the lives of fishermen, marine economic activities, national image and security and defense in seas and islands. Therefore, organizing the training course not only aims to improve the qualifications, awareness and skills of officers and soldiers in managing, monitoring and protecting the marine environment, but is also a strategic and long-term requirement for the entire force.

At the conference, delegates listened to the contents of environmental protection and marine ecosystems in Vietnam; efforts to reduce ocean plastic waste pollution in Vietnam and some key results; regulations on decentralization, delegation of power, two-level local government in the field of sea and islands and proposed amendments and supplements to these regulations in the Law on Marine and Island Resources and Environment.

After listening to the topics, delegates participated in discussions, exchanged experiences in handling situations and answered questions related to the management and control of the marine environment associated with the practical tasks of the Coast Guard.

Colonel Lam Son Tung requested agencies and units in the entire force to develop plans, lesson plans and organize additional training for officers and soldiers who have not attended this training course. At the same time, continue to promote propaganda to the people about the harmful effects of marine pollution on living space and the country's economic development. Propaganda work needs to be closely combined with mobilizing people to join hands in preventing and combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Thereby, contributing to building a green - clean - sustainable marine environment, ensuring livelihoods for the fishing community and maintaining security and order in Vietnam's seas and islands.
